"Passengers on the volus ship. Seems the pirates were looking to use them, then sell them as slaves. Guess they decided to have some fun after I took out the pirates holding them," Maelstrom replied.
“Probably doubling as security for the volus, too,” observed Eric. “Guess even biotics can only do so much against a gang packin' hardware. I’m almost at the brig. See ya in a bit.”
The N7 veteran signed off and nudged his prisoner’s shoulder to get a move on. “You’re a lucky man. If it were up ta me, I’d stick you and all yer friends in the crapper!”
The pirate only growled in reply. Eric snorted and kept pace. Suddenly Meldom’s voice came over Eric’s comms.
"Eric, found ‘em. Definitely shifty, probably think I don't know their game... What do you want me to do?"
Entering the brig section, Eric ordered his prisoner to stop and hold still. He then thought a moment and said “Joe wants to put the able-bodied volus to work repairing the freighter. The captain and first mate are responsible for the ship’s condition. If Mr. B gives the okay we’ll put these two to work first, maybe… coordinate repairs with him. Keep ‘em both away from the crates as long as possible… and when they’re tellin’ their sob story to th’ cops, we pull down their pants and expose ‘em…! Unless they drop trou first…”

Esteban listened to the conversation between Joe and Eric, dropping down to a knee while the gray pulsating light extinguished around the ship's drive core. The dark energy quickly evaporated into the nothingness where it came from. It was things like that which passed through Esteban's mind while he worked, wedging off the protective plate in front of the core. He looked down at the dozens of pipes insulating wires from the native Volus toxic atmosphere. His HUD displayed columns of data from his omnitool, automatically scanning the ship's primary power supply.
"Thank you Artacus," he whispered, his dark eyes reflecting the HUD's dim lighting. "The ship's engines are shut down."
He pushed his hand against his knee, using it as leverage to rise up to his feet. The data told him everything that he needed to know. It would take awhile to get everything up and running, but he could do enough to keep the ship from degrading further. But he would need a couple of free hands to help.
He sighed to himself.
"Beginning repairs of the ship," Esteban said into the group comm channel while he waved his omnitool in front of the core. The main hatch unlatched, releasing pent-up flourine gas with a sharp hiss. "Estimated time to finish is one hour."
Esteban took out small wielding tool from his tool belt, flicking it on. "Good job everyone."

"Good job everyone."
Maelstrom parked the gravity sled, staying a few yards away from his employer. Men tended to be jumpy right after combat, and the other man did not seem to have noticed his approach yet. The two asari women helped him find the choicer pieces of what he was looking for, and they were familiar enough with the volus crew to steer him away from any items whose owners might still be alive. In return, he decided to make a detour, having noticed how expectant Enaya was.
"Hey, Mister Bridges," Maelstrom said, "have a pair of asari here who are interested in joining up for a few missions. I can't speak for their combat experience, but they've assured me they can find ways to be useful. I don't doubt that, since they're the ones who rigged up the pirates' brig to keep its own crew in."

Artacus stepped back from the console and looked back to the guard. He seemed the last of his life was draining out of him, his head laying flat on the cold metal floor. The turian shakes his head at the sight, walking out of the bridge. "I'll let someone else clean that up.. I don't have time." He thought as he walked down the long metal hallway to where the others are resided.

"Good job everyone," Bridges said.
Against what? These pushovers? Joe thought as he pulled the last two volus corpses up. Even if the Collectors are as weak as these guys, they've got the numbers. Guys, I'll be seeing you soon. In the meantime...
He opened up a private channel to his employer. "Boss, when we get back to the ship, I'd like to speak with you in private," he said.
"Speculation without proof leads to unproductive paranoia", huh? We'll see about that...

The footsteps echoing across the room announced the arrival of Murchadh. He nodded to everyone as he lifted up a small box he was holding. " Foond thes doon in th' cargo bay hidden under rotten vegetables. thirteen tubes ay red sain. nae ferlie th' pirates whaur efter th' ship." He said as he leaned against one of the walls.

"Beginning repairs of the ship. Estimated time to finish is one hour. Good job everyone."
Seeing that the area was adequately repurposed to keep the team's prisoners contained as Maelstrom described, Eric disengaged the cryo grenade from his captive's chest before shoving him into one of the cells.
"All in all a textbook takedown," he added.
Murdach walked in holding a box. "Foond thes doon in th' cargo bay hidden under rotten vegetables. thirteen tubes ay red sain. nae ferlie th' pirates whaur efter th' ship."
"There're supposed to be two crates worth of the stuff," said Eric, momentarily glancing at the pirate who informed him. "They probably spread it around... maybe some of it's in the panic room." He opened a channel to Meldom. "Meldom - Murdach just found a batch of red sand in the cargo area. Do our... captain and first mate have any crates with them by any chance? I mean, the threat's been eliminated and I'm sure Fearless Leader could use a couple of extra hands to get the core and other systems back on line."

Karn would soon follow behind Murdach, hopping out after him as he approaches the group. With a brief wave of his hand, his signature grin details enough enjoyment radiating from himself at the time, well, enough enjoyment a krogan could get after beating armored pirates with a blunt object.. "Easy with the sand, that'll be worth somethin'..", he says towards the scotsman, soon chuckling out as he does. He glances around the room, lugging his bloodied hammer against his shoulder as he does. He looks from Fischer, to Lysander, Maelstrom, Esteban and whoever else was in there at the time.
"So, we get this shit done? Ain't exactly a great volus person..", he chuckles out.

Meldom stood outside the door listening to the volus when Eric had started to speak "Meldom - Murdach just found a batch of red sand in the cargo area. Do our... captain and first mate have any crates with them by any chance?". Meldom slipped his cloak on and peered around the door watching the two volus. One was using an omnitool to write a message while the other was looking in a crate Meldom was whispering "Looks like a crate maybe, unsure not good angle.. one seems to be writing a message of some sort. " He moved backwards and turned his cloak off before sitting in one of the chairs.
As he did so Both the captain and the first mate came out of the saferoom door "Sur'Kesh clan, please acompany me to the others.." Meldom looked at the two and gestured to the first mate "What about him" The first mate locked the saferoom door "I will guard our cargo..just incase any pirate gets out.." Meldom shook his head "Come on then..Captain" he muttered as he acompanied the other Volus to where the rest of his crew were making repairs.
He activated his cloak once more and went back to the crew quarters to keep an eye on the First mate.

Artacus would eventually walked toward the group and eye each and everyone of them silently while also staying farthest from the group as possible. Usually he would search the whole entire ship and be thorough, but since he was with such a big group, they would do the searching for him. He saw the familiar faces as always, the lizard with the bloodied hammer, the human in the black armor, the 'jokingly' arrogant human in heavy armor, the boss of the expedition, and that other human that he wasn't really fond of. The only unfamiliar sight was the two asari near Maelstrom. He looked at them for a while, glaring through the dark, blank visor of his helmet. Artacus turned his head back to the rest of the group, keeping silent.

Esteban began working on the core, reattaching severed wires to their base. It was simplicity itself for the Engineer. For him, the simple work was relaxing. He could let his mind wander or he could clear it.
"Hey, Mister Bridges," Maelstrom came over the comm channel. Esteban stopped, pulling his hands away from within the core. A couple of wire dangled loosely still. "Have a pair of asari here who are interested in joining up for a few missions. I can't speak for their combat experience, but they've assured me they can find ways to be useful. I don't doubt that, since they're the ones who rigged up the pirates' brig to keep its own crew in."
He closed his dark eyes, blotting out the world in front of him. Esteban hated the unexpected. It was one of the reasons why Engineering appealed to him so much. It was dedicated to making the world into an orderly place. "Send them down to engineering please," he finally spoke up after a few seconds of silence. "I will need to speak with them before making and decisions." He fought his first instinct to just say no and get it over with. Maelstrom sounded almost genuinely happy, something that he didn't think was possible. "And see if you can find any files on them on either ship. If you can, send them to me immediately. I want to know who it is that wants to join up."
[insert response here, if any]
Esteban nodded and heaved a sigh. flexing his fingers. He felt a little more on edge, paranoid. He wasn't sure who these Asari were. Unlike the rest of the crew, he didn't have the chance to conduct an extensive background check on them. He considered trying to contact an information broker, but thought better of it. Radio silence would keep him and the crew alive. There was no way of knowing what Udina was doing.
"Boss, when we get back to the ship, I'd like to speak with you in private."
"Understood," Esteban replied automatically, not even paying attention to who asked. It only occurred to him moments later that it was Joe. He nearly cracked a smile before getting back to work... getting lost in the experience.

"I want to know who it is that wants to join up," Bridges said.
Maelstrom tapped a few keys, having expected such a request. "Already downloaded the volus files. Sending them to you now. Everything's perfectly in order, according to Council standards. Won't believe this, Bridges, but they're Consorts. All the proper documentation, coming to your omni-tool."

"Already downloaded the volus files. Sending them to you now. Everything's perfectly in order, according to Council standards. Won't believe this, Bridges, but they're Consorts. All the proper documentation, coming to your omni-tool."
The word Consort sent strange images through Esteban's mind, none of them good. He never had anything against prostitutes; everyone needed to earn a living somehow. Yet with Consorts, he couldn't help but feel a tinge of revulsion. Though why, he didn't know. He met one while he was dining alone on the Citadel a few years back. They struck up a friendly conversation. They even talked about their respective jobs. He even keeps in touch with her, sending messages back and forth once every few months. So the revulsion didn't make any sense to Esteban. Yet it was there.
"Thank you Maelstrom," Esteban managed to say, sounding as neutral and businesslike as ever. "I'll review the files immediately. Send them my way please."
Esteban ended the communication, unable to refer to the Consorts as anything other than 'them.' They tended to be a fairly perceptive lot, so it would be better to get everything out of the way.
"Data, analyze the packet Maelstrom is sending and display all relevant information on the two... ladies... " he choked out. ".... that Maelstrom found. Display on the HUD, lower left side, upward scrolling."
"Of course," was all Data said, displaying the information nearly immediately.
And with that, Esteban got back to work stabilizing the ship.

Andrei finished up tearing apart the VI that had attempted to vent the entire vessel into the void. The Quarian shook his head, "Pathetic work. They should have bought from me, then maybe they would have succeeded in killing us all." He looked up from his emerald omni-tool as it flickered off. Clasping his hands behind his back, the Sentinel casually strode across the blood-slicked floor towards Esteban, the human hard at work on the ship's core.
He watched him work for a moment, mumbling approvingly and disapprovingly at certain choices the human made. "Mr. Estefan, out of curiousity, how many drive cores have you rewired in the past year?"
