Meldom nodded "depends on if the population knew, STG could control most information going around our planets if they wished, mostly they don't but in a case like that they would freeze networks and feed false stories.. then probably detain and... Punish who did the deed" he scratched his head before he spoke again "quite scary how much power they have really, agents are like spectres but so get punished if they fuck up.." his hand scrunched up into a ball as he said this "unlike spectres they are quite accountable"

Maelstrom separated himself from Fischer and Meldom, walking up beside Lysander quietly. The modified spike was certainly an impressive piece of work, though admittedly one that was over his head. Leaning in, he said, "Unless I'm mistaken, that one's meant to be fired from a rifle. Would it work being launched by my biotics, though?"

“That’s the best part - it’s made to be versatile,” reassured Eric, indicating a couple of inches behind the warhead a dial-like mechanism around the circumference. “You turn this here… do you want a private demo or is it okay for the other kids to watch? They may need a coupla these babies themselves and I’ve noticed some sonic grenades in your gift basket. The guts aren’t as precise as survey spike emitters but they can still do the job. We just need to machine up some extra housings and I can crank out some more to go with the three I’m puttin’ together.”

"So, Karn.", Morgan would ask, "What is it you do on this ship, exactly?"
"The probable unofficial wrecking ball of the group..", Karn chuckles out, rubbing his crest plate. "Eh', I couldn't say I have some sort of official role, but I'd say I'd be the one to get thrown into people more often then not, eh?" His view notes the equipment she would be popping out and shuffling away into what could possibly be rather deep pockets for a coat, before moving his view back to her. "Take it you're the new tech junkie then?" Karn found himself amused for once, though it'd be hard to tell if a Krogan was humored or about to tear your face clean off, with the slight scowl on his face. Then again, it was just a gruff look on a gruff alien, not much else to note.

"We just need to machine up some extra housings and I can crank out some more to go with the three I’m puttin’ together," Lysander asked.
"I almost never use the sonic grenades. Just something I picked up on a raid. Feel free to use all of them you need to equip our team. We'll just have to make sure we keep track of them and split the remaining ones up between the two of us when this is over," Maelstrom said. "No need to increase the personal costs we incur on the mission, after all."
Looking back over his shoulder at Fischer for a moment, Maelstrom said, "When you say doing a demo for them, I'm assuming Fischer's armor wouldn't hold up? If it wouldn't hurt him, could be fun to watch the kid get thrown half-way across the cargo bay." Getting a bit more serious, he added, "I don't mind showing them what they'll be using. We should just make sure to record and distribute the demo so that everyone getting one of these has an idea of what they're setting off when the time comes."

"...unlike Spectres they are quite accountable," Meldom finished.
Joe nodded in appreciation. "Wish we humans could do that," he said. "Whenever one of our politicians gets caught with his hand in the cookie jar, all he has to do is make some tearful apology with his wife and kids standing by him and all is forgiven. Thanks for the insight, Mel."
He mentally facepalmed himself as he realized his nickname for the salarian was the same he had given the biotic.
Okay, someone is getting a new nickname...

Maelstrom then said, after momentarily looking to Joe, "When you say doing a demo for them, I'm assuming Fischer's armor wouldn't hold up? If it wouldn't hurt him, could be fun to watch the kid get thrown half-way across the cargo bay."
“Oh no, no, no - it’ll punch right through, turn ‘im to salsa inside his suit,” Eric replied in a low tone. “I’m just showin’ how you arm and launch the thing. We can’t afford a mess now… we just fired the maid…” He winked, hoping that Maelstrom would catch the dig at Artacus.
Getting a bit more serious, Maelstrom added, "I don't mind showing them what they'll be using. We should just make sure to record and distribute the demo so that everyone getting one of these has an idea of what they're setting off when the time comes."
“Yeah I can record a demo, no problem,” Eric agreed. “But I can’t do tech support under fire. Okay, lesse if these gents take an interest…”

"Eh', I couldn't say I have some sort of official role, but I'd say I'd be the one to get thrown into people more often then not, eh?"
Morgan arched an eyebrow at the Krogan. "Where I come from, that's simply called 'The Muscle," she said with some amusement.
"Take it you're the new tech junkie then?" he asked, taking note of her equipment.
His expression gave her pause. Was that an issue, or just general curiosity? It was hard to tell with Krogan. Sometimes it was both.
"Yeah," she gave him a wistful sort of smile. "I guess you could call me that." Morgan folder he headset back into its small bundled shape and clipped it back on the cuff of her sleeve.
"Were you looking for Iskra or something?" she questioned, not wanting to get too deeply into answering questions about her other... talents. Besides, she was curious what had brought the Krogan to the medbay in the first place It certainly wasn't to speak with Joe, or presumably he would have followed the human merc back out.

"Where I come from, that's simply called 'The Muscle,", she would say in an amused tone.
"Eh', give or take I guess that's the right wording for it.. Then again, they'd just call me the crazy bastard for wantin' to take that job..", Karn chuckles out, his tone still as gruff as it started out as.
"Were you looking for Iskra or something?", she would soon ask again.
"Oh, yeah. I was kinda' wandering around the flight deck and well..", Karn shuffles off his gloves, exposing a wrap of bandages covering the hand, knuckles mostly. A light tinge of orange would cover underneath the white wrappings. "Gotta' replace em', did a little too much trainin' for em' to handle, heh.", Karn gives another chuckle.

Noting a lull on the conversation, Eric got everyone’s attention. “Guys? Guys… if you can spare a minute or so I got a little sumthun to show you. Mal ‘n me came up with one solution to the Praetorian problem…”
He indicated the finished spike lying on the workbench.

"A solution to the Praetorian problem?" Joe said, walking over. "You mean 'Shooting It A Lot With Big Guns' isn't one?"

"You mean 'Shooting It A Lot With Big Guns' isn't one?" Fischer asked, proving that he had not thoroughly read the intel packet provided by their employer.
"We tried that last time. With almost half the team working on it, one of our team had to fry her biotic amp to take a single one of those things down," Maelstrom said, unable to make light of dealing with Praetorians.

Joe almost replied that only happened because he wasn't there, but he held it back; during his time in the service, he had seen a few biotics blow out their amps and the result was not pleasant to say the least.
Instead he just shrugged. "I'm all ears," he said. "I'm always open to learning new ways to inflict grievous bodily harm and property damage."

“Your big guns might as well be peas shooters to a Praetorian,” added Eric. “This pig sticker here won’t look like much to it either. But usin’ this bad boy’ll be like pluggin’ a tailpipe with a potato. Then settin’ off the claymore stuffed inside that potato. Pay attention, you might learn somethin’.” Eric activated his omni-tool and set his suit cams to record. Then, entering full salesman mode, he introduced the gathering to his latest product.
“’Kay boys… this… is the anti-Praetorian package you never knew you wanted. Uses the same basic principles as an anti-armor shell with the added bonus of vibrational shock damage to your target via overclocked seismic emitters. Delivery can be accomplished by weapon mount or biotics. You heard right, guys – biotics. For you mystic voodoo warriors you arm the device like so…”
Eric turned the dial beneath the warhead in the device clockwise, causing it to light red.
“Light it… then hurl it. 88 to 100 feet per second and you should see some serious shit.” He turned the dial counterclockwise to switch it off.
“Lights out, it’s safe to stow. For the rest of us mere mortals you can load this into the muzzle of your favorite pistol or rifle. Cap on the end’ll automatically calibrate your piece to fire it off at the required velocity. Load ‘n fire just like an old style RPG. Only drawback though is gun overheat. Once you shoot you’ll need to wait for it ta cool down or change out the thermal clip, dependin’ on how old your boomstick is. One other note: loadin’ this into your gun also arms it, overriding the dial setting. Dial’s not loose or sensitive but make sure it’s off before you use it. One last thing: I highly recommend not jammin’ this into your target point blank by hand… unless you don’t mind bein’ flame-broiled, tazed or fried… and not always in that order…”
Eric set down the disarmed spike on the workbench, his sales pitch ended. “Any questions?”

Joe listened carefully as Lysander went through the briefing. In theory, it sounded good, but then a lot of things sounded good in theory.
"Any questions?" the older N7 asked.
"Yeah, a couple," Joe said. "First, have you actually used these things? Second, anyone seen a firing range on this ship? I wouldn't mind getting in some practice time with these things before the mission starts. You could whip up some practice rounds for this thing, right?"

"You could whip up some practice rounds for this thing, right?" Fischer asked.
"Not with my explosives," Maelstrom said, leaning back on a crate. "Outfitting the whole team will run me low enough as is, and I trust Lysander's handiwork. Even if I didn't, these things would run too big a risk of poking a hole in the hull.
"We haven't used them before, though. Didn't realize how big a threat Praetorians were until we fought one."

Eric eyes gleamed at Maelstrom's vote of confidence as he looked to the junior N7.
"To answer your first question I've worked with sonic spikes, anti-armor shells, eezo Claymores and gun-launched ordnance before. But this's probably the first time anyone's put all that together in one weapon. The principles are still there; the trick is to get them to work together."

"Which is why I'd rather get some familiarity with them now," Joe replied. "The heat of battle is the wrong time to be doing test fires. So, can you whip up practice duds?"

Eric thought a second. Time was drawing near for the mission and Joe was right - the team could not risk using an untested weapon in actual combat.
"Tell you what... I can make some without explosive that shoots out dye or schmutz instead. All the spike does really is punch through and focus the blast into the target. We can set up some kind of slab approximating the thickness of the armor, something separate from the Valiant's superstructure to test that. I'll need some more tubes run up, a few more sonic emitters. How does five sound?"

"How does five sound?" the senior N7 said.
Joe nodded. "That should work," he said. "I'll go gear up, meet you back down here."
