"I do the sneaky thing, it gets you the evidence and me through any roadblocks I hit… whaddo I need ta do?”
"I figure that kind of respect is mutual, so I always keep to my side of it, and Emily operates at my direction. She's not an AI," Maelstrom explained.
Continuing, he added, "Depending on what systems are in there, you could run into some interference with the signal from Emily. I doubt it would happen, but it's a possibility. I've never been in a morgue, so I don't know what they might have running. In that case, you'd either need to hook your omni-tool up to the local network, shut down whatever's causing the interference, or just find the files on your own," Maelstrom explained. "Other than that, just infil' and exfil'."
"Now, if the security is exceptional for some reason, you might have to" "follow her orders?" that would not go well "work with Emily to find a way around them. Don't ask me what that might entail. I'm no hacker; I was just lucky Cerberus programmed her with some advanced software."

"Over there," she said, pointing towards a corner. "Your weapons are fine, but your armor suffered some damage. I repaired what I could, but that's not my area of expertise. I'll go check on your companion now."
With that, she left.

Izahm quickly snaps on his nearly destroyed armor stows his weapons then checking to make sure his tech armor still works waits for his rescuer to return keeping his tech armor on.

Maelstrom assured Eric that his VI would not violate his privacy but there was the possibility that the connection could be subject to interference. "Now, if the security is exceptional for some reason, you might have to work with Emily to find a way around them. Don't ask me what that might entail. I'm no hacker; I was just lucky Cerberus programmed her with some advanced software."
“Th’ Alliance’s got more colonels than a bag o’ popcorn,” commented Eric. “Maybe we’ll luck out and find Willie wasn’t worth puttin’ caramel on. A lil’ change ‘o costume could get me over that hurdle… guess it- Emily n’ I can improvise th’ rest.”
Eric stood up and clapped an arm around Maelstrom’s shoulder. “So… as my ‘old war buddy…’ care to go for a lil’ stroll? To the vicinity of – let’s say – a supply closet?”

Maelstrom smirked at Lysander's suggestion. He held out an arm towards the hallway. "I appreciate this, Lysander. I think you already knew this, but if you ever need a hand, you can give me a call."

If there had been a crime committed where Shala now stood, there was no evidence of it; even the bloodstains had already been cleaned away, if not by the C-Sec, then certainly by the Keepers.
“All right…” Theraxos said as he reviewed the footage of the shooting. “Judging the by the angle, the camera should be over there.”
He pointed off into a corner where a camera was mounted about fifteen feet up from the floor, then looked around the area some more.
“That’s strange, there are two more cameras monitoring the area,” he said, pointing at them. “If the footage from the first one is altered, why isn’t the footage from all three altered?”
“Perhaps whoever did it did not have enough time to do so?” she said.
“Perhaps,” he said, sounding doubtful.
As she looked around the area, something caught her eye. “What about those cameras?” she asked, pointing at a store that had several different cameras in its front window. “Did you get any footage from them?”
“I don’t think so, it would have been logged in as evidence,” he said. “Come on, let’s talk to the owner.”

Lekuhn pushed his way past Asari asking him if he was ok and chattering to one another about what had just transpired. The murmur of curiosity died behind him as he walked into the vastness of the Citadel. He felt so embarrassed. This had never happened to him in public before. He never knew what he looked like when he had an episode, but he got a clue this time.
"Did you see how he changed color?" he heard a faint voice say as he was leaving.
Rotten timing. I get one of my father's memories and it has to be on a shuttle full of people.
All he wanted was to get a room and go to the bar for a drink. His nerves were on edge and he knew no one here. No one was ever there to comfort him. He had grown used to this. Half of him would rather die than become vulnerable enough to entrust his emotions to another and the other longed for the sanctuary of a friend. How could he know who was friend or foe now anyway? There was probably a price on his head if anyone had identified him. His mind was racked with the possible scenarios that could lead someone to him. He was sure he had planned that hit perfectly.
He had already paid for a room with his omni-tool and was glad to be able to put up some of his gear. He put down his pack and his rifle and got undressed. He went to the mirror and stood looking at himself, wearing only the chain with the goddess Arashu hanging from it. He never took it off.
This is me.
For better or worse.
Who am I?
Why have I chosen this path?
Rather, why has it chosen me?
As he stepped into the sonic shower, he was glad for these little new beginnings; the times of cleansing before all was made dirty again. He knew it would only last a short time. He missed his mothers. He missed his father, even though his memories were always there. He was lonely and hated admitting it.
Time for a drink...or five, he thought.
He put his clothes and armor back on, strapping on his pistol, but leaving his rifle behind. It wouldn't be needed here, but he always carried his father's old Brawler. As he walked out of his room and down the hall, his mouth watered at the thought of a nice Batarian Ale.

The female was still asleep when Naetilia entered.
“No time for that,” she said as she administered the same stimulant she had given to the male.
Almost immediately the female’s eyes opened. “What…what…where?” she gasped, looking around.
“You’re safe, though your companion seems to think that will not last much longer,” Naetilia said. “He says it is imperative that you reach his shuttle immediately. I need you to get dressed now.”
“Yes, of course,” the female said as she slowly got out of bed and began dressing.
-----
The female leaned heavily on Naetilia as they made their way down the short hallway.
“Situation seems more grave than I thought,” Doctor Heplorn said, stepping out of the male’s room.
“Yes,” Naetilia said. “I will escort them to their departure point. It would be best if you deleted any records of their treatment.”
“Already done,” the salarian said. “I must say, I’m impressed with such a level of dedication to your patients, even in a place like this.”
“In a place like this, it is even more important,” she said.
He nodded. “I doubt we’ll see each other again,” he said, extending his hand. “I wish you well in your future endeavors.”
“And I wish the same for you,” she said.
-----
She entered the male’s room, the female still leaning heavily on her.
“It is best if you support your companion,” she said, releasing her hold on the female and drawing her submachine gun. “I am in the best condition to fight. Just provide me with the directions as needed. Are you ready?”

"Alright," Izahm says pushing off the wall and taking McKay from the doctor, "It's in docking bay 35 one level below Afterlife," he then turns his head to look at the Turian doctor curiously thinking but doesn't voice his thoughts instead re-positioning McKay so she is more comfortable, "After you."

Maelstrom held out an arm towards the hallway. "I appreciate this, Lysander. I think you already knew this, but if you ever need a hand, you can give me a call." “If it’s with Cerberus goons, most definitely,” said Eric as he remembered something and went towards the desk beside his bed and picked up his small bottle of pain reliever tonic placed by his flask. He put the bottle in to a pocket on his robe and started for the room door, waving over Maelstrom.
“This may come in handy… ‘kay, with everyone lookin’ at your getup, they shouldn’t notice me slippin’ out behind a door. There’s a bathroom down th’ hall right near a locker room I saw some folks go in and out of. We just need to get past our watch-nurse at reception. Follow my lead and we should be fine – ready?”

As soon as Shala entered the shop, the owner—a fat and balding human—smiled at her, but then it disappeared just as quickly when Theraxos followed in after her.
“Citadel Security,” he said. “I’m here about the murder that happened just outside your shop.”
“I didn’t see anything, I was closed at the time,” the owner said, his eyes flicking back and forth between the pair.
“I know, but I think the cameras in the front of your store may have,” Theraxos said. “Were they on?”
The owner nodded, his eyes once again flicking over to her. “Yes, I just finished converting them,” he said.
“Converting them?” the turian asked.
“Yes,” the owner said. “Every single camera in here is at least one hundred years old, so their formats are completely different from the ones used today. I have to run them through a converter to make them compatible with today’s hardware. And I have to say, the guy in the funny armor is one lucky guy!”
“What do you mean, ‘lucky’?” she asked.
His eyes flicked over to her again and ran up and down her body before finally meeting her eyes.
Keelah, I’m going to have to take a shower after this…
“I’ll show you, I’ve got it in the back,” he said. “Ladies first.”
“Thank you, but I don’t know what to look for,” she said. “I think you should lead.”
He nodded, clearly disappointed, and began waddling towards the rear of the store.
*****
Maelstrom entered the frame, carrying a package, and then something caught his attention. It was clearly something he didn’t like, as he drew his submachine gun.
Another human entered the frame, holding his hands up, clearly trying to show he was no threat, but Maelstrom kept his SMG drawn.
They talked, but judging by the tension in Maelstrom’s posture, it was not something he cared to discuss. He shouldered his way past to the other human, only to be bumped into by a passing krogan, causing him to drop his package. He picked it up and turned back to the other human, who suddenly slumped to the floor.
He turned back the way he was going and simultaneously rolled away, then got up and ran out of frame.
*****
“Like I said, lucky,” the owner said as the clip ended.
“Do you have any cameras pointed further down the street?” Theraxos asked. “It would make the case a lot easier if we could see the shooter.”
The owner shook his head.
“What about audio?” the turian asked.
The owner shook his head. “Video only,” he said, his eyes once again flicking over to Shala.
Make that two showers…
“I sure would like to know what they were talking about,” Theraxos said.
“That’s beside the point,” she said. “It proves Mae—my friend didn’t kill that other human.”
The turian nodded. “I’ll be taking this video, it’s now evidence in my investigation,” he said.
“Okay, I’ll make you a copy,” the owner said.
Theraxos shook his head. “I need the original,” he said in a tone that did not encourage an argument.
The owner sighed as he ejected the OSD.
*****
“Keelah, this proves Maelstrom didn’t do it!” she exclaimed as they left the store. “I’m going to call him now.”
“No, first we have to take it back to C-Sec, get it authenticated, enter it into evidence, and then get my supervisor to call off the search for your friend,” Theraxos said.
“But—“
“I know you want to tell your friend right away, but until it’s authenticated and entered into evidence, he’s still the prime suspect,” he said.
He reached out and took her by the shoulder. “Trust me,” he said. “I trusted you when I didn’t enter him into my official report, now I’m asking you to do the same. The system can work, believe me.”
“All right,” she said.

Walking into Flux, Lekuhn noticed it was empty for a bar its size. There were a few people at the bar, an Asari and a human dancing on the dance floor and a rather large Krogan gambling in the casino. He felt he might be too exposed here, but welcomed the time to think without many people around. Plus, less people meant less chance of him being spotted if he had been named as a suspect. Perhaps everyone was at Purgatory.
He sat at the bar and asked the barkeep, a portly Volus, for a Batarian ale. The thick draught felt good going down as the cold ale turned warm entering his stomach. This was due to the alcohol content. It wasn't long before he felt that warm feeling come over him that only an ale like this can supply and he started to ponder. His mind floated away to times of his youth when his mother and father were between jobs. He used this to explore whatever new planet or space station they were inhabiting at the time. He asked for another ale.
He remembered being very fond of Aeia, with it's lush vegetation and gorgeous landscapes. He and his mother went walking alone there once. She told him of his ancestry and how the Drell used to live more naturally and in harmony. She told him he was special and that one day he would know why, but he was too young to know right now. He never knew what she meant, but he knew he loved her.
Oh, Omilya, my heart.
He placed his hand on his chest where his pendant of Arashu hung. He would have grasped it had it not been under his armor. He thought also of his Asari step-mother. He had begun calling her "mother" before she went away. Jesara had always been there for him whenever he was down. There was never a time he could recall her failing him when it came to his thoughts or feelings. Losing her was like losing a huge part of himself. Once she melded with him simply to let him see all of the beautiful thoughts in her mind. She loved him and he knew it without her ever having to say it. He had always wondered what happened to her. He searched for her for three years after she fled to no avail.
What has become of you dear Jesara? Are you still alive? Will I ever find you again?
He asked for a third ale. At this point he was tipsy, but not drunk yet, though he planned on getting that way. He looked over and noticed the Krogan walking toward him. He thought nothing of it until the hulk was about five feet from him and he knew he was being approached.
"That's my seat little lady." he said
Lekuhn just looked at him. Partly because he didn't want to feed into this Krogan's insults, but also because this guy was massive standing roughly nine feet tall. His eyes were blood red as he loomed over Lekuhn. He could smell the liquor on the Krogan and could tell he had been drinking for some time.
"Are you deaf pip squeak? This seat is for big lizards, not skinks!"
"I was unaware of that." said Lekuhn "I see no skinks in this vacinity though, so I think we must conclude the seat is taken...by me."
"Didn't your mother tell you not to press your luck with a Krogan or was she a dirty whore who ran away?" said the giant
Lekuhn felt his temper swell at this comment.
"Settle down, Rock!" said the Volus behind the bar
"The name's Wrokus! And you don't tell me what to do, puff bag!"
"Do you know why they call me Rock for short little lizard?" said Wrokus
"Because when I hit you it's like being hit by a boulder."
"I thought it was because you had the wits of a boulder" retorted Lekuhn.
What happened next was a surprise to the onlooking audience in Flux. Most of them were sure Lukuhn was about to die, for they knew Rock meant business. Many of them had seen him send much bigger bi-peds to the infirmary.
No one talks about my mothers that way!
The Krogan seemed baffled when Lekuhn engaged his invisibility cloak. He was too drunk to keep his focus on the wavering lines in the air that were hard to see anyway due to the lighting in the club. People from across the bar gasped as if he had disappeared entirely, but could soon see where he was in relation to Rock due to the large spatter of yellow fluid that spouted from the Krogan's eye. Rock screamed, swinging wildly in an attempt to connect with him.
Lekuhn took a few steps back and uncloaked.
I don't need the cloak to take this big dummy
Rock was enraged. He charged Lekuhn with his head down, spurting slimy fluid all over the floor. Lekuhn waited. When rock was about a foot from him he cartwheeled to the left, away from the bar, landing in a low sideways stance with one hand in front of him and one behind, his left side facing the Krogan. Rock rammed into bar stools and a few people as he missed. When he got his bearings, "the skink" was ready for him.
Rock didn't charge this time, but lumbered toward Lekuhm, swinging a right hook at his head. Lekhun dodged low and away from the blow, planting his left hand on the floor while torquing his body, then lifting his right leg and spinning on his left. The kick landed at the base of the Krogan's skull with a loud crack. This stunned Rock, but did not knock him out. He stumbled forward and regained his balance, looking addled. His eye had stopped gushing, but Lekuhn noticed he was standing in the yellow fluid he bled out. He took advantage of this.
As Rock was turning around, Lekuhn took two large steps and lunched himself feet first at his foe. His feet hit Rock square in the chest the moment he turned around. Lekuhn used the immense weight of the Krogan to push off of and did a back flip, catching the big lizard in the face with his left foot on the way down. As he landed, he saw Rock's feet fly into the air and his head smack violently on the tile floor. He did not get up.
The small crowd stared at him as he went over to see if Rock was alive. He scanned the hulk for vitals and he was, barely. Lekuhn noticed a piece of paper sticking out of Rock's pocket. He grabbed it and unfolded it. It had three words on it.
"Drell. Citadel. Eliminate."
This guy was after me and he didn't know who I was.
Lekuhn thought to kill him there, but knew he would get in trouble.
"Get him to a doctor" he said
"Looks like you need one too" said the Volus behind the bar, pointing at Lekuhn's foot.
He had not realized it, but his heel had caught something jagged on the Krogan when he delivered his first kick. He was bleeding out quickly.
Must have hit an artery.
Lekuhn felt faint.

Malestrom followed Eric, joking "I'm hoping your plan isn't for me to hit on some nurse. I've never been good at flirting."
Eric put his arm around his friend again. "Nah - flirting's my department. Besides I've been gettin' on the poor girl's nerves so much she'd probably take a scalpel to me for tryin'! Follow my lead..."
The N7 veteran palmed open the lock to his room door. He and Maelstrom stepped out into the hallway and began to make their way by the reception desk where Nurse Weaver was stationed.
"So," Eric raised his voice and conjured up the end of a joke that didn't exist. "The hotel manager sees the lizard on the poor guy's bed and without missin' a beat says." Eric's voice took on an exaggerated nasal British accent. "You do realize, sir, that you'll incur an additional charge to upgrade to the Honeymoon Suite."
[Eric hopes that Maelstrom laughs along to add to his ruse]
Eric managed a loud, obnoxious cackle knowing that it would get Weaver's attention. The flexing of her nostrils indicated his success.
"Guys got all caught up, eh?" said Weaver.
"Like he never left, ma'am," answered Eric, stopping to address her in a near whisper. "Lissen... my buddy here needs ta hit th' head. I'm just gonna take him around the corner to the visitor's bathroom, 'kay?"
Weaver was about to raise her finger but Eric cut her off with "Turns out Blackie hates talky toilets, too. Who woulda guessed?"
[Maelstrom may have a remark]
Weaver furrowed her brow. "And he can't find his way on his own?"
Eric deflected with "I think... I think I might need ta go in with him.... damn irregularity... come on, you got your samples for today! Just this once, please?"
Weaver took a breath and stared at Maelstrom while pointing to Eric. "... make sure he comes back with you..."
[Maelstrom may offer a verbal assurance or simply nod]
"Thank you!" Eric quickly led his companion past the reception desk to the end of the hallway for a left turn. Meanwhile Eric whispered to Maelstrom as he gestured with one hand as if bringing up another anecdote.
"The left up ahead's the locker room n' bathroom I told ya 'bout. Figure I wait about a minute after you pop into the bathroom before I do my thing lookin' disoriented n' all. Then you come out and wait in the hallway 'til I get back; I should be a half hour max. If the nurse or anyone else comes askin, as far as you know I disappeared into a stall right after you went in. Maybe volunteer to check on me every coupla minutes to stall 'em. When I pop back you can pretend you're just as shocked as they are that I wasn't in the bathroom with ya - how's that for a plan?"

"You do realize, sir, that you'll incur an additional charge to upgrade to the Honeymoon Suite."
Maelstrom raised an eyebrow, wondering what possible joke could have preceded such a punchline and made it humorous. Nothing came to mind. Remembering the point of the whole exercise, though, Maelstrom was able to manage what was admittedly a very forced laugh.
He listened curiously to the exchange that followed between Lysander and the nurse. When she looked at him with a mixture of disdain and questioning, he said, "I've been in these kinds of places before. You'd think after a tour fighting the geth, I'd be happy to shit on a VI. Turns out, it's still just as unsettling to have something commenting on the composition of your feces as it ever was."
Lysander and the nurse exchanged a couple more bars before she turned back to Maelstrom again. "... make sure he comes back with you..."
"All depends on how much he stinks things up and whether or not I need to keep my distance." Pointing to the respirator on his helmet, he said, "These things can only filter out so much, you know."
She was clearly not amused, and she glare she sent his way made him wonder if she would be better suited to the life of a nurse or an underworld enforcer. He realized his getup would let him fake being older than he was. "Listen, if I didn't leave this old bastard to fend for himself when he got pinned behind the lines at Mindoir, do you really think I'm going to let your crapper do him in?"
Lysander thanked her and then led them away from the desk as quickly as he could without being suspicious. He started whispering conspiratorially as they left, explaining his idea. "-how's that for a plan?"
Knowing that must of his successful escapades involved overwhelming force or never being seen, Maelstrom said, "I'd have felt more confident about the grenades." Sighing, he said, "We'll do it your way. If you take too long, though, and I'm under pressure, I reserve the right to shatter the toilet you were supposedly in with biotics and then go after that nurse for letting you get so backed up that when you finally took a dump, you popped like a giant volus. Nowhere to be found. Good luck living that down."

Until the checkpoint, the trip had gone well.
There were a few instances of people looking at them, but a hard stare from Naetilia and a brandishing of her submachine gun made them look elsewhere.
They were less than a kilometer from the shuttle bay when they ran into the checkpoint, which was manned by six Eclipse mercenaries—an asari, two salarians and three humans—along with a pair of Fenris mechs.
“Well, hello there,” the asari said. “New policy was just put in: all those exiting Omega must pay a nominal fee, which will go towards hiring more personnel and better equipment to help improve the security we provide here.”
“How much?” Naetilia asked.
The asari told her, and it was not a nominal amount.
Naetilia looked back at the male, who shook his head.
“We don’t have that amount,” she said. “I am a doctor, and that female needs medical attention, the kind that cannot be provided for here. Please let us pass.”
The asari’s eyes widened. “It’s an urgent situation?” she said. “In that case, the fee is doubled.”
“I was thinking tripled,” said one of the salarians.
“But if you don’t have the money, there are…other…ways you can make up the difference,” the asari said, looking Naetilia up and down.
She leaned forward and whispered, “You know, I’ve never been with a turian female. Do you scratch as much as your males?”
Naetilia replied by shoving her omniblade into the asari’s brain and then emptied her submachine gun towards the remaining mercs to give the humans enough time to find cover.

After the quick escalation Izahm throws a FENRIS into the engineers sending them scrambling for cover followed quickly by him deploying his Disciple and shooting one of the humans in the chest sending his lifeless body flying backwards.
He rolls to the side quickly getting behind cover making sure McKay is safe then switching to his Revenant and activating his tech armor before popping up and unleashing a hailstorm of fire not really intent on hitting anything just trying to keep them distracted enough for his rescuer to get a shot in.
"After this fight and we get to my shuttle could you tell me your name," Izahm shouts over the sounds of battle taking a few glancing hits, I like to know who I'm indebted to." He the unleashes another sustained burst from his Revenant taking a few more glancing hits his shields now down to half.

Reluctantly, Maelstrom agreed to Eric's on-the-fly scheme.
"We'll do it your way. If you take too long, though, and I'm under pressure, I reserve the right to shatter the toilet you were supposedly in with biotics and then go after that nurse for letting you get so backed up that when you finally took a dump, you popped like a giant volus. Nowhere to be found. Good luck living that down."
Eric came to a halt in the space between the locker room and restroom doors. "That's surprisingly... gentle for ya, idn't it...? Look, I know you're worried 'bout the cops comin' after ya but relax. I'm on th' case! I'll get ya th' evidence ya need to clear ya with your lil' Emily even if I get busted. I'll put it all on me; it was me bein' screwy. You were along for th' ride like everybody else."
Eric looked to either side of him for anyone approaching or taking an interest in a patient speaking to a fully armored humanoid. One hospital official went by with his back to them. The mischievous N7 spied a water fountain by the bathroom door and then palmed his medicine bottle.
"Speaking of rides, we're about to head up that hill on th' roller coaster." His head angled to the restroom door. "Better take your seat n' strap in, so ta speak. Ya might even enjoy it a little; I've done crazier things just for shits n' giggles-"
An audible low buzz interrupted him. Eric looked about nervously. No one else was around to hear it. Eric closed his eyes, looked up and sighed heavily before attending Maelstrom again.
"Oh-ho-hoh - nice... aren't ya glad ya have your helmet on?"

Maelstrom was busy typing away at his omni-tool, so he missed Lysander's last comment. It was a little delicate preparing Emily for interface with someone else's omni-tool while he was still conscious. The procedure was even more delicate due to the fact that he was still making sure there were no errors present remaining from the cascade failure Shala'Bekk narrowly saved the VI from.
He held his activated omni-tool up near Lysander. Any onlookers would have just thought they were file sharing. "Activate your omni-tool and copy this application. It should allow a stable link-up to Emily."

Naetilia ducked behind some nearby packing crates and activated her tech armor. A quick peek around the corner revealed that one salarian, one mech and two humans were still in the fight.
She prepared an overload charge and waited for the salarian to reappear. She did not have to wait long.
As soon as he poked his head out of cover, she released the electrical attack, completely disrupting his shields. She fired two short bursts from the Tempest, her military training enabling her to keep it rock steady and centered on his thin chest, and he went down in a rain of green blood.
“You BITCH!” a voice cried out from where she saw the other salarian go down. “You killed my brother!”
The mech and a glowing red orb charged towards her.
