"You sure about that?" she asked, a playful smile on her lips. "You sounded a little unsure."

"Yes; I'm definitely sure it was a turian ship." Eric was a bit steadier now. "I take it you've been around long enough to have been aboard your fair share o' ships... how does this one hold up to you? Are you happy with just the essentials, prefer one with more comforts or the whole works? Want a ship that balances style with function or a boat that can get the job done despite looking like a flying junkyard?"

"Good to know you're sure," she said, then her playful smile on her face was replaced by a thoughtful expression.
"You're right, I've been on board my fair share of ships, enough to appreciate reaching your destination is more important than amenities or appearance," she said. "But if I had to choose, I would definitely take amenities. Nothing makes a trip seem longer than being uncomfortable."
She looked over at the krogan.
"What about you?" she asked. "I expect living on Tuchanka makes you prefer function over form, yes?"

"Ha!" Thrak laughed. "Only thing a krogan crew cares about, Blue, is how many guns and how big. That doesn't equal form or function." Looking about, he said, "This suits me just fine. Something fast and quiet. That way, I'm the one to make things go BOOM."

Typical krogan response, she thought.
" 'Blue'? Just 'Blue'?" she said, then shrugged. "I've been called worse. Usually it's 'blue-skinned bitch', though a couple of times it's been 'octopus head'--courtesy of a human."
She rolled her eyes at Lysander.
"How utterly unoriginal," she said, then turned back to the krogan. "Speaking of original thinking, I've heard that your leader--Wrex, is it?--has been trying to lead your clan in a different direction, one that includes clans working together and not getting revenge against the salarians and turians for unleashing the genophage. What do you think about that?"

Thrak shrugged. "Wrex is my battlemaster, and I follow him. Not my place to have more of an opinion than that. He's certainly the most intelligent chieftain on that miserable hunk of rock, though."

"He was part o' Shepard's crew during the Alchera attack," noted Lysander. "When he died - or when he was lost, really - it threw everyone for a loop. At least people like Wrex made something positive from it n' shaped up. People like me... heh... quit... it took hookin' up with Bridges ta make me see how stupid that was. Some need a nudge; others need a sledgehammer."

Post by Maelstrom on Jul 23, 2017 23:59:58 GMT -6
Maelstrom walked into the galley quietly. His hands had stopped shaking and his breathing and heart-rate were back to normal, but he still felt disquieted. Instead of letting it show, he maintained his best stoic manner, as he made his way to the stove with his single-serving instant-pho-kit.
Back in the day, it would have just been noodles and seasoning, but advances in food preservation since meeting the Council races meant that vegetables and even pieces of meat would reconstitute as it cooked. True, it was nothing compared to fresh pho, but Maelstrom hardly felt like going to the trouble of preparing a big meal from scratch. Still, he was happy to round the meal out a bit more with some sticky rice- one of the few foods which actually seemed as good from scratch as prepared instantly- with wasabi and soy to dip in and a few spring rolls. As for something to drink, he was sticking to water with electrolytes.
Unconsciously, he found himself gritting his teeth, as he thought of his panic attack in the Jeffries tube. Over the next few days, he was going to spend as much time as he could running those tubes, and he would not allow himself the weakness of escaping again. Some might have told him that such things were understandable, but he refused to be comforted by such niceties. Maelstrom had a goal- the destruction of Cerberus- and he could not afford any weakness if he was to succeed in it.

Smart enough to know he's not that smart, she thought of the krogan.
Looking back at Lysander, she said, "You quit what? You mean you haven't done something good since then? Unless you think Cerberus is too moderate, then I'd say taking one of their ships from a shipyard of theirs and nuking one of their dreadnoughts is something good."

"I quit the Alliance - the last person anybody expected to give up," Eric explained. "I thought I ground out that out in Basic. When I should have dug in and carried on the fight, I cut n' ran. Took Shepard's good fortune for granted - when he disappeared it was like I disappeared, too. Too caught up in his name to remember mine..."
The N7 reflected a bit more on Geenenh's words.
"I've actually done way more good with Bridges and you guys than I did when I was a marine. Away from all the rules and regs... outta Shep's shadow... I finally, truly know who the hell I am. Nowhere near Wrex's league but I can still take whatever curve balls they throw at me."

She nodded.
"Sometimes you have to get away from it all to find yourself," she said. "It takes a lot of courage to go into unfamiliar territory."

"Or stupidity," Eric added. "How you come out the other end's a matter o' luck or experience. Sometimes both."
Eric thought a moment about a new topic.
"Hey, I know this place ain't much on amenities despite being a 'non-standard' naval vessel, but does anyone know if they've got a pool table stashed around here somewhere? I'd settle for a holo version... hell, I might even be desperate enough to play against th' computer... but I'd much rather have a live opponent. Either o' you guys play pool...? Billiards?"

Thrak was confused why Stick would even suggest the possibility of a pool. Some of the larger volus and asari pleasure vessels had them, to be sure, but Thrak had never heard of a military vessel with such a luxury.
He shook his head. "No pool. You wouldn't want to watch a krogan try to swim anyway. Then again, the sight of me in a thong is one you'd treasure the rest of your lives."
With that, he found himself in an unrestrained belly laugh.

"Think I saw something about one while reviewing ship's information," Maelstrom said, having only been partially listening to the conversation. "Couldn't swear to it, though. I was mainly reviewing combat and emergency capabilities."

At this Izahm decides to speak up from where he us leaning, "I believe the crew lounge has one. I can't swear by it either but when I was wandering the ship I thought I saw one in the lounge."

Maelstrom and Izahm had joined up with Geenenh, Thrak and Eric as the former threesome were talking. Eric then brought up the subject of billiards. The newcomers mentioned that they had either come across or read references to a pool table in the ship's lounge. Eric barely heard them as he was doubled over wheezing at Thrak's misunderstanding.
"... Thor... in a thong... well there's a thilly thought!" He caught his breath.
"Pool, Thrak! Solids 'n stripes? Callin' shots? Rack 'em up? Coupla guys takin' turns knockin' each other's balls around a felt table with wooden sticks? Tryin' ta get 'em all in a hole in one go...? Yeah, I'm gonna need a picture here cuz I think I'm paintin' th' wrong one for this guy!"
