“I think is why it has imprinted upon me.”
Maelstrom nodded. "Much of what I own has been acquired from those I've fought."
Naetilia and Izahm caught up some more, before Izahm offered his condolences.
"It's a sad fact of the business, more unfortunate because it was her this time. Her life's work was an attempt to restore the drell homeworld. Hopefully she had a colleague who can finish her work."
Fischer entered a moment later with all use usual tact and subtlety. Izahm either tried to antagonize him or connect with him through an attempt at sarcastic humor, Maelstrom could not tell which.
Maelstrom leaned over to speak conspiratorially with Naetilia. "Despite what I'm sure are appearances to the contrary, we're pretty down to business when we're on the job."

Eric weaved his way into the meet-and-greet Joe initiated. “While these two are competin’ to see who can grow the biggest stalk o’ corn, I’d like to get one major concern outta th’ way.” He looked at the turian. “Is your robot secured from hacks? Cute as it may be to have that thing nuzzlin’ against yer leg; it’s only a keystroke away from turnin’ it to a stump. We used to have a mascot, a varren. Parr. Flesh n’ blood company. A nuts-n-bolts version runnin’ ‘round th’ deck's outright sacrilege!”
Eric held up his hands questioningly. “I mean, what is it about ‘im you like so much? Is it a control thing? You don’t like th’ way it’s actin’ so ya just reprogram it, right? Not like people - you have to convince them ta change… some may not want to so that's a problem.”

Naetilia leaned forward until she was less than half a meter from the human, and looked directly into his eyes.
“If I agree to work for Mr. Bridges, I will be the doctor for this group, which means the health and well-being of everyone will be my duty, and if you had bothered to get to know me at all, you would know that I take my duties very seriously,” she said.
“If I had thought this mech was dangerous, I would not have kept it, and I certainly would not have brought it here,” she said. “And if it begins to act hostile towards anyone on this team—even you—I will not hesitate to destroy it.
“Does that put your…fear…to rest, human?”
She kept her gaze locked on to him.

Esteban leaned against the wall, watching the scene unfold. He had to admit to himself, the new doctor had spunk. And she was surprisingly calculated, measuring risk and benefit without hesitation. He gave her an approving nod. He only wished she wouldn't have brought a robot that looked so much like a pet. Esteban missed Parr as well.
He shoved himself off the wall and walked over towards Izahm, speaking as quietly as he could so not to attract attention. He extended his hand to the new reporter in their mist, as if he was greeting him. "Sorry for waiting," he whispered. "But I imagined the information needed to be secret. Had to wait for conversation to pick up. What's the message?"

Izahm takes his hand shaking it lightly, "It's from a recently acquired mutual friend," Izahm whispers back, "He said first to tell you 'the devil has not forgotten and will give his due', he then imparted information that there are men in the docks where the Valiant is currently. They're waiting to ambush the team when we conclude this meeting and go to leave the Citadel," he then waits for Bridges to process it all and reply back hoping his new employer would believe him.

“Does that put your…fear…to rest, human?” The turian female stared unwaveringly at Eric. “Only in check,” he replied and crossed his arms. “So… you’re a doctor, eh? An actual medical doctor, not just someone sportin’ a degree…” In addition to her grace she had fire as well. She was not shy or skittish like Iskra and if she had her own personal issues it looked like she had them well contained so as not to interfere with her duty.
“If this latest mission plays out like the others, your services’ll definitely be needed.” He extended a hand to her. “Eric Lysander. I’m sorta the… unofficial executive officer for this outfit.”

"Naetilia Bolanis," she said, taking his hand and shaking it. "And yes, I am a licensed medical doctor, with a specialization in emergency trauma."
She looked around the room for a moment, then stood up.
"Excuse me," she said. "I need a drink."
She went to the bar, took a bottle of dextro-based water, and took a long swig.

Eric thought she would be helping herself to one of the alcoholic beverages available at the bar; her choice of water was a surprise. But if she was to be the team’s new doctor it only made perfect sense for her to remain sober. Eric smirked, casting his eyes over to Esteban’s position where he was engaged in conversation with the armored messenger. As he waited for an opening he thought upon whom else would be joining in on Esteban Bridges’ crusade. If any old faces would return…

Joe nodded in approval as the doctor defended herself from Lysander’s concerns.
Nice, he thought. Rather than get defensive or bow to his demands, she went on the offensive.
He leaned in to Lysander and Maelstrom.
“I don’t know about you guys, but I like her,” he said. “God forbid we need her to do her job, but if she does…I mean, look at how hard she fought for a mech, just imagine how hard she’ll fight to save our lives.”
(Insert any replies)
“By the way, have either of you heard from Meldom or Karn?” he asked. “They did say they were planning on coming back, right?”

"Henry the Fourth," Esteban smiled, recognizing the quote. He kept his voice as low as possible "Our mutual friend is a fan of the classics."
He saw Lysander out of the corner of his eye as he began considering what to do about the potential ambush. Well, he thought to himself. I'm sure Eric's been itching for an easy win for a little while now.
"As for the rest... I'm sure we all will find a way to properly thank the mercenaries for their hard work and encourage them to find a new line of employment... if they survive, that is."

Izahm in a surprisingly cold and emotionless voice quietly says, "Agreed I loathe mercenaries and took up a friends crusade to eliminate them wherever possible," he then sighs and says, "I need a drink," going over to his fruit dronk downing the rest of it then making himself another glass downing half of that before refilling it once more. Once that is done he leans against a wall nearby the others but with door in a perfect position to escape to. Izahm looks around memorizing faces and equipment for future research sipping at the drink listening to all the different conversations.

Joe leaned in between Eric and Maelstrom and gave his evaluation of Naetilia. “I don’t know about you guys, but I like her. God forbid we need her to do her job, but if she does… I mean, look at how hard she fought for a mech. Just imagine how hard she’ll fight to save our lives.”
“Least she admits responsibility for it,” said Eric. “And she sounds like she’s already seen some heavy action.” He allowed himself a small, cocksure smile as he looked her way. “Barring K-9000 there, she’ll fit right in.”
“By the way, have either of you heard from Meldom or Karn?” Joe then asked. “They did say they were planning on coming back, right?” “Nothing from either of ‘em,” Eric answered. “You’d figured Karn woulda said somthin’… or we mighta heard ‘bout some shit he was stirrin’ up or smackin’ down. Meldom…”
Eric did not want to bring up the salarian’s indoctrination. If his condition had worsened, if there was no cure, the Meldom they knew was gone forever.
In mind, if not also in body.

Naetilia walked over to Izahm.
“Do you know anything about Mr. Bridges beyond what is on the extranet site for his company?” she asked in a low voice. “If Fischer is indeed an N7, and Maelstrom truly does favor the use of nuclear weapons, then I do not believe we are being hired to provide security for an archaeological dig.”

Izahm glances over at the others then refocuses on Naetilia saying quietly, "Over a year ago Bridges' company had an archeological dig site attacked by collectors, then shortly after it reopened with no records of any military operations in that sector nor any call for military aid. Then a little over two months ago a Volus freighter was rescued again with no record of military actions or calls for aid," he pauses wondering if he should tell her his suspicions about the nova level event in a sector of space collectors routinely frequent, he decides not to continuing with more of the general information he picked up using his contacts, "Plus there were reports from a fuel depot from a crazed Turian Cabal and a space station that had several accidents happen out of the blue, in the traverse and terminus respectively. I can't prove anything yet but I suspect it's this team in all the cases I mentioned," he then sips at his drink once more tapping the glass nervously with his index finger, "Which is partially why I took this job. To get more information and get the truth."

She nodded.
"Battling Collectors and pirates, interesting," she said. "And what about these...employees...before us?"

"I just learned their names," Izahm says quietly, "The only one who I readily recognize from secondhand reports is Lysander, he's been mentioned several times in reports on Shepards N7 career and past, he's an ex combat engineer and considered to be one of the best in his field," he sighs then gets a far off look on his face, "I just learned the names of the others, but I can offer my observations on each, the other N7," here he motions in Joe's general direction, "is a recent graduate I'm guessing because he's fairly young, and judging by his size he's an N7 Destroyer, they need to be that large in order to handle the heavy battlesuit," He then motions in Maelstrom's general direction, "Maelstrom I'm guessing was a Cerberus operative at one time and they experimented on him in some way too, hence his immediate cautiousness around me and extreme anxiety," he then blinks several times the far off look disappearing then he sips at his drink, "Of course these are just observations they can be totally off and that's all I can do is make guesses based on observation, until I can actually get back to my shuttle and do research on them to either confirm my observations or disprove them."

"Just imagine how hard she’ll fight to save our lives.”
Lysander's response seemed both cautious and optimistic,
"The mech won't be a problem. It's easy enough to down a whole pack of them, Lysander. A single one on a short leash shouldn't pose any threat," Maelstrom replied. "And as for the rest, I'd agree, based on my initial impressions."
“By the way, have either of you heard from Meldom or Karn?” Joe then asked. “They did say they were planning on coming back, right?”
Eric offered what he knew and suspected.
"The boss says he hasn't been able to contact Iskra. Even tried paying a visit to her home. Nothing. Even our financier is coming up with nothing."

She looked over at him.
"Shepard?" she said. "As in the one who killed over three hundred thousand batarians and claimed it was to prevent an invasion by the 'Reapers'?"
Her finger began tapping gently against the bottle.

"Then that explains the good doctor," Joe said. "Either of you know the other guy? Damn, I think I've got some socks older than he is."
(Insert any replies)
He turned to the newcomers.
"Hey, Izahm!" he called out. "So, this whole 'assassin' thing, does your mom let you do it on school nights, or is it strictly a weekend-only thing?"

Izahm is about to reply to Naetilia when Joe calls out, "Hey Izahm! So this whole 'assassin thing, does your mom let you do it on school nights, or is it strictly a weekend only thing?" Why do people always mention my age he then turns to face Joe and says, "I haven't talked to my family since I became a journalist at sixteen, too busy with the war and mercenary work. Last I heard from them was awhile ago, something about dad helping build GARDIAN defense turrets on a colony," Izahm pauses trying to remember damn it has been awhile since I talked to them, "It was Horizon I think, that's the last I heard of them."
He then turns to face Naetilia, "You know what they won't tell us about that? He did it to stop the Reapers from using the relay to attack us all, at least that was in the reports I read that he submitted but Alliance censors didn't want the world to realize how imminent the Reapers are so they didn't show that in the report instead they blamed it all on Shepard, plausible deniability is a bitch."
