Hello everyone,
So, the GM and I were talking, and we were wondering what everyone's thoughts were on individual players having multiple player-characters during mission chapters. This doesn't include things like mechs, pets, or VIs.
Thanks, Maelstrom

I voted for multiple characters, but I also think there should be a limit of 2; trying to juggle Joe and Shala is pushing me to the limit.

I always kind of had the mindset of having either character you make take on a different thing.
Like, if in missions sake, you have one character specialized in one skill set, whilst your other character has another skill set. Would they help the team in any way with that certain mission, or would they be useful for something else? Kinda more of a selection purpose then anything else, so most people wouldn't have to strain themselves with two posts for double characters.
Almost like the squad selection from the games, just.. In roleplay form?

Myself, while I probably would make a second character if this went through, believe that we should stick to a single active character for missions.
I do have lots of concerns, though. Selecting characters based on team needs could get hectic when everyone has multiples with different specializations. Everyone having multiple concurrent characters could lead to forming cliques with just that one person's two (or more) characters if there is a disagreement with the rest of the group. Another concern is that if enough people in the group took it up, it could make the RP seem too full to people potentially looking to join (with just ten actual players, we could be looking at twenty or more posting characters)- perhaps spartan and Naetilia could comment on this, since they'd have the freshest perspective on that. Finally, I am concerned that the extra writing burden could actually slow us down in chapters, as a person might only have time to write one post that day but both of their characters might be called on for necessary things in the RP. Especially given that we can do character stories about non-player-characters, I think this could just be more trouble than it would work out to be worth.
Those are all my concerns. As I've said, though, I think I'll make a second if it goes through, just because I've had ideas floating around for a bit.

My thoughts are mor alike with Maelstrom. There will be big delays in posting as people would need approval for each relevant post for each character which as Maelstrom said would mean him and the GM having to go through eighteen reply drafts. There's also the fact that should you forget about the second character they'll be so far behind that they won't have a major impact. That's my two cents anyway.

Like everyone else in this group, writing is a hobby and for me writing multiple characters is difficult. Like Joe's player, 2 is about my limit.
But I would go a bit further than Joe's player. I would only grant a 2nd character to players who have proven they are consistent in their postings and if they have to go AFK, they have the common courtesy to let the group know in advance. I mean, if we were meeting IRL, someone would let us know if they couldn't make it, right?

I do think i agree with Joe, Have a limit of two characters, with the option of retiring one or maybe killing one off in a sense to make room for another character if you wished.

Alright, well, the results speak for themselves. The GM and I will talk about it and figure out exactly what the next step will be. More than likely, it will involve more polls to figure out just what kind of limitations and qualifications there will be on having multiple characters. For the current mission, though, I expect we'll be sticking with the old rule of a single character, and we'd hopefully have the rest sorted out in time for the next mission.
On a separate note, I wanted to thank everyone for the feedback. We had a wonderful turnout in voting and a lot of you voiced your opinions. That's exactly what we'd hope for with this kind of thing. In the writers group I run, we almost never get this level of feedback, and we have probably three or four times the number of people. Just well done, everyone.

I take it as a sign that we care about this campaign, that we want to make it the best we can.
