PERSONALITY:
A wiseacre, Eric's mouth can pack as hard a punch as his fist or one of his explosives. Fancies himself a ladies’ man but more often strikes out and has yet to be in a relationship that lasts beyond a few weeks. Has no problems working with or relating to non-humans but has an aversion to VIs and AIs, exacerbated by his past battles with the geth. Can often be heard whistling themes from old sitcoms or cartoons while busy surveying land or planting charges. Beneath his clownish persona lies a conscience that kicks in and helps him rise to the occasion if needed.
HISTORY:
Eric Lysander grew up in the “Red Section” of the Chicago megalopolis, a neighborhood with a high concentration of European émigrés, some of who were involved in illegal enterprises. Having trouble coping with his parents’ divorce and a tormenting older sister, there were frequent brushes with police mostly for petty theft and mischief. The hapless youth was often unknowingly employed as a distraction by his friends who worked for the local gangs. Fearing authorities would blame him for a fire that killed the owner of a fireworks plant he interned at, he fled Earth for planet Bysorrn with his uncle in 2164 as part of an exchange program between the Systems Alliance and the Turian Hierarchy.
It was on Bysorrn that Eric befriended Commander Shepard as a child. Shepard’s parents would save his life there after he crossed a human drug cartel trying to establish an interplanetary market, the same cartel that recruited his uncle. The mother and father of Shepard used their influence to work out a deal to wipe Eric’s slate clean in exchange for his enlistment and serving three consecutive tours of duty. Eric managed and even advanced in rank, owing to his rough and tumble youth his ability to take punishment, appreciating even more the military instilling in him the means to dish it out. After completing his sentence he decided to stay on but figured he might eventually leave and become a prospector. But a mission where he pancaked an underground bunker overrun with geth, by setting up explosives at key points on the fly, earned him a spot in the prestigious N7 program. There he was reunited with Shepard for a time serving as program mentor, superior officer and partner before the fateful assignment to the Normandy.
Shepard’s death hit Eric pretty hard, prompting him to lose his drive and leave the service. He decided to pursue his old goal of prospecting and took up work as a mercenary and/or geologist at dig sites and mining operations to pool funds. When Shepard reappeared, the prospect of rejoining the Alliance became a viable possibility - when he left he had turned down a promotion to Captain. But he also did pretty well for himself as a freelancer, made a few connections and had nearly enough seed money to start his own operation.
Eric resolved that his next job would help him decide which path to take…
