Hey all
I am making a series of rules to make sure there won't be any confusion. It's just easier if everyone's on the same page with how things should go. I've seen games where one player actively decided the history for other players, which ended up upsetting quite a few. I've also seen games where some people post their character doing one action during combat while one "super character" kills everything. So to avoid confusion, ground rules should be in place.
1. Be respectful of other players
This means you cannot decide what other PCs will do in your post. You are in control of your character. You can decide what your character says and does, but you cannot decide for another character to do or say anything. If you have a great idea for an interaction or want to have a fight with another PC, go for it. Just work it out with that PC.
2. Keep how time passes in mind
The passage of time can matter in posts. You cannot go up an elevator, put on power armor, then come back down in the same time it takes people to run across a room. I don't think there needs to be a hard and fast rule demanding everyone pays attention to every single second that passes, but players should keep time in mind, just in case.
3. Don't Power-Game / Min/Max / Munchkin
No single character can be more powerful than the rest of the group combined. All characters should have their strengths and weakness, things that can and cannot do. The people of the group should be able to rely on each other to survive. Sure, some characters can be better at things than other characters, like an Infiltrator should be good at hiding and sneaking and a soldier should be better at shooting... but it shouldn't be imbalancing.
4. Try to stay within the lore of Mass Effect
The rule of thumb should be this. Does your idea fit into the world of Mass Effect? Like... do you want to have a suitless Quarian? If the answer is yes, then it does not fit into the lore of Mass Effect. It's okay to have some fun with it and experience a little bit.. you know, a little bit out of the box thinking. But it can't be so far away like having warp speed or having the force. Or having something like a Vorcha that's also a shape shifter. Things should be within the lore or very reasonably close to it.
