Just thought about these, and I don't think anyone mentioned about them yet.
I know they weren't made available until Mass Effect 3, but I was wondering if anyone wouldn't mind if our characters had them.
I always thought they were pretty cool addition for CQC (close-quarter combat just in case no one knows what that means), instead of that elbow move, too be honest lol.
Anyway, it's up to all of you and Michael if we can allow them.

I'm okay with it.
In all honesty, I didn't care for the addition to Mass Effect. It felt like it was completely out of nowhere, since it wasn't in the 1st or 2nd game and suddenly it was there without explanation.
Though with that said, the omnitool should be useful in almost all situations. Making a weapon that's hard light seems reasonable to me.
I kinda wonder now about limitations on it. I mean, blades break off. When you use a weapon, it dulls. What sort of downside would there be to using the omnitool as a weapon?

Maybe if you use it as a weapon, you can't use it for about a minute to cool it down?

I'm not a huge fan of the omni-tool weapon, but, the way I see it, we should limit it to heavily-tech people if we're going to use it at all. People for whom the omni-tool is already one of their most prominent weapons in their arsenal. As I see it, others should make due with real blades.

I think omni-weapons would belong to characters with military backgrounds.
Is it weird that I think of the omni-tool as a tablet and its various functions as apps?

I assumed that the omni blade could be used like a regular blade, however using it to long causes the omnitool to overheat or powerdown for awhile to recharge
Codex
Although melee-combat applications for the omni-tool are almost as old as the device itself, the feature was largely unused prior to the Reaper invasion. The need to take on multiple husks in close quarters forced the Alliance to develop ways to enhance the tool's offensive capability.
The most common melee design is the "omni-blade," a disposable silicon-carbide weapon flash-forged by the tool's mini-fabricator. The transparent, nearly diamond-hard blade is created and suspended in a mass effect field safely away from the user's skin. Warning lights illuminate the field so the searing-hot blade only burns what it is intended to: the opponent.
