Ship Name: Vengeance
Ship Class: Incursion-class Cerberus Shuttle
Owner: Maelstrom
VI: Emily
Dimensions:
Length- 32'
Width- 16'
Height (compact configuration)- 10'
Description:
The development team for the Incursion class shuttle started with the Kodiak shuttle as their guide. The vessel's outer hull is more aerodynamic than it's predecessor, with almost organic curves. The engine pods have an additional point of articulation, making it capable of far more precise maneuvering, particularly in atmospheric flight. Where the Kodiak possesses a rear "whale's tail" of sorts, the Incursion class possesses a fully enclosed space used for cargo storage and/or sleep pods.
Under the nose of the vessel are two antipersonnel guns with a high rate of fire and limited firing arc. A single tube connects to an internal compartment capable of mounting a variety of heavy weapons comparable to those carried by ground teams.
The cockpit and main compartment are much like the Kodiak's, save slightly more spacious. Overhead handrails line the ceiling of the craft's interior to aid crew in moving about even during the most daring of aerial maneuvers. The seats and harnesses for the ground team are at the fore and aft of the main compartment, with the hatches to port and starboard able to rise vertically. Though initially outfitted with two heavy anti-personnel turrets with auto-assist, the Vengeance's turrets have been removed. The hookups remain, however.
The aft of the vessel is a compartment closed off to outsiders which serves as Maelstrom's personal quarters. Fore of this are two small areas. To port, a lavatory and to starboard a small armory.
System Design:
The Vengeance is a first-generation low-emissions long-range incursion shuttle developed by Cerberus for use by its operatives. It was designed to handle missions where deployment of a frigate was deemed excessive use of resources and a small team of operatives utilizing private transportation was insufficient.
While not possessing the level of emissions absorption noted in the SR-1 and SR-2, the vessel's significantly reduced emissions make it difficult to detect at long range, making it more difficult to intercept. Its hull is composed of an alloy which partially diffracts radar and ladar- the vessel still shows up, but it is harder to target with automatic systems as its exact location may be anywhere within a volume of space approximately six times that of the vessel itself.
The additional articulation in its engine pods makes the craft capable of far more precise maneuvering, particularly in atmospheric flight, where its maneuvering is comparable to gunships. This is a rarely used feature, as the vessel is not designed to serve as a combat craft except in the most dire of circumstances.
The antipersonnel guns are only slightly more powerful per shot than a high powered assault rifle, however they boast an increased rate of fire, making them most useful for suppressing fire. The heavy weapons tube allows heavy weapons comparable to those used by ground forces to be mounted within the vessel, making it capable of taking out heavy weapons emplacements or vehicles prior to depositing the incursion team. The small space allotted, however, means a small ammo capacity, only a few shots at best.
The sensors are advanced for a shuttle of this size and monitored, as are most systems, by an advanced VI, named Emily by the vessel's owner. They are, however, still limited and of most use in detecting intercepting craft and hostiles in the immediate area of the ship.
