Here's a question that just occurred to me today and is now REALLY bugging me. If they go through sufficient water treatment and purification to make sure that NO bacteria whatsoever make it into the drinking water, then why don't they keep fish in the lakes on the Presidium? It would serve both as a cost-effective way to produce at least some of the station's food requirements AND serve as an enjoyable addition to the already beautiful landscaping in the area. Oh, and given that the lakes water level doesn't seem to dissipate and that the ME universe has never shown anything like large-scale matter replication technology, you know that lake is all water reclaimed from sewage (even if they don't use water in toilets, the level of moisture would go down if they allowed the moisture in excrement to be disposed of, since food accounts for less of that moisture than the water which is being drawn on from those lakes)...

Maybe all the fish died out ? somehow.. or that not every race can have their fish in as each fish is different and needs different requirements, also maybe the fish hate eachother and would fight.

Still, the asari got there first, so even if all the fish died, why didn't they stock it with asari fish? And it looks like some of the lakes are separate, so they could store different species (for the requirements of the different races) in different lakes.

Fish in the Presidium lake was one of the biggest misses in the 3rd game. I would have loved to see a huge celebration in the ending sequence with Wrex and Grunt finally getting some fish at last!

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. While they had stuff to purify the water, the added risk of throwing fish in there would be a stress I imagine they didn't want to have to bear.

Also the annoying VI would have to say "Please do not feed the fish"

"Please, do not disturb the krogan." Give it a second. You'll get it.
