Standing in a brightly lit white tall room with his kestral armour on Meldom looked out the glass to Sur'Kesh, such a beautiful planet he thought to himself, he leaned on the glass and took the sights in once more.
The door behind him opened and Another salarian walked in "Meldom" he said with a serious yet calming voice "We need your help..", Meldom looked out the window and sighed "Guessed that.." he said lightly the other salarian turned to his desk and sat down "I take it you know why you are here then ?" Meldom nodded as he turned to look at the salarian, approaching the desk and sitting down in the chair opposite as he spoke "Someone screwed up, someone in high command, now you need me to clean up the mess.. yes ?", The other salarian watched Meldom blankly for a few seconds before muttering out "Yes, we had an.. information breach..".
Meldom leaned back in the chair and folded his arms "How, computers networked so any breach would alert others.. could not be another race, they would be under watch and scrutiny..only viable option is..a mole" after this he stood up and walked back to the window "How, who and where are they". The Salarian behind the desk leaned forward "Correct, We had a mole, He managed to download half the sealed files.. usually we would send more then one person but given that you two have.. history". One of Meldoms eyes raised as he looked at him "You suggesting.. Ikkak" the salarian nodded "He was the only one that could have done it..i don't like this anymore then you meldom, we have the evidence.. and we know where he is, we need him silenced and the files recovered..i sent the info to your omnitool.. think you can do this ?" Meldom looked down to the floor before starting to walk out of the door, as he was one step out he turned his head "Will do it.." he says in a dark voice as he steps out of the pristine office and to the ship that was waiting.
The small ship took a day to reach the planets overhead space station, it was a huge structure, nowhere as big as the citadel of course but still huge by salarian standards, officially it was a defense platform and used for resupply, unofficially it served as the network for monitoring the entire planet , it had one room that was connected to every camera on the planet, within minutes you could locate someone, If meldoms information was correct then Ikkak was on this planet, he would use the network to find him.
Walking through the doors many salarians stood up and started to salute as he entered the hub he waved his hand "Not necessary, lets just work" his voice was cold and collected as if he wanted this over and done with, he walked to the main console and started to type things barking out orders "Create temporary overflow for data.. Force the netcams, redirect visuals and sound directly to this room" almost at once the screens (Think of liaras screens on the Normandy but a holograms) Meldoms eyes gazed over each of the screens, each one showing different people, different cities, different lives "Begin voice and facial recognition" the other salarians started to work.
Meldom had been shifting through data for hours, looking for Ikkak, watching each screen and listening to vocals, everything for the people groundside was normal all he heard from them was "I think the neighbours are odd", "mating rituals" and other things, he was not interested "Where are you Ikkak.." he occasionally muttered, the other salarians worked as busy as he was, allowing the vi's to work as well as them, they would check data that had a 90% match and then file it as incorrect as it most likely was.
All at once each of the screens started to static and the audio fizzled out Meldom looked up at them and shouted to the others "Whats wrong.. power drain, overflow collapse ?" they all were tapping on there screens before one yelled out "we are receiving a transmission, unknown source and we can't pinpoint it, its in one of the three colony cities.. Meldom looked at the screen as it burst to life with a salarians face "Meldom.." it said "It is good to see you.. wish it was under better circumstances.." Meldom looked at the face "Ikkak..give files, we can work this out.." Ikkak burst out laughing "I wish i could Meldom, but you of all people know me, i won't surrender, i can't, this information needs to see the light of day.." Meldom yelled to his techs "Can we pinpoint yet" the techs replied "Negative, likely we won't be able to either..".
Meldoms face went dark as he leaned against the console "Ikkak.. you know i have to do anything to stop those files getting out.." his voice trembled not speaking as it usually would but ikkak just shook his head "What are you going to do Meldom.. i know the station has the nukes incase of occupation.. you won't use them.. if you do" his face vanished and the screens once again displayed people going about their normal lives, ikkaks voice spoke over them "They will all die.. you cannot be sure what city im in.. what will you do, nuke them all.. not even your special STG will forgive that..".
The voice of his superior rang out in his head "The cost of these files are greater then you.. me and probably greater then STG.. you have to get them, nothing you do would not be worth getting them back"
Meldom leaned against the console with hands on each side of it as Ikkaks voice started to speak again over the chatter of civilians "Can you do it Meldom.. condemn millions to die because of a few files.." between each interruption Meldom heard the planet, it was alive in a way, the birds could be heard, people laughing unaware of what was happening. Meldom hit the console with his hand before looking up at Ikkak "Im sorry ikkak.. can't let you.." he started to input things into the console "Wh.. MELDOM you can't!, you would not!" Ikkaks voice started to break, the formidable voice that boomed over the speakers started to show a twinge of fear Meldom looked up at the people on the monitors as Ikkaks face popped up, it looked like it was pleading with him "Meldom.. you won't.." he typed the few remaining keys before the Vi hologram pooped up next to him, "Greetings Operative, are you sure you wish to initiate occupied planet wipe" The vi's voice was cold and unmoving, meldom looked up towards the screen at all the people and back to his technicians at their desks.. "Yes.." The salarians next to him started to shout in protest one even tried to tackle Meldom but Meldom just avoided him and knocked him out with a swift punch the Vi looked at Meldom "Groundside report indicates civilians are still groundside, please give override code.
"21517-Alpha" Meldom said almost sadly the Vi looked at meldom processing the passcode "Acknowledged" it said before disappearing.
The station from the outside started to open up different ports, every one that opened launched a nuclear warhead at the planet below, Meldom walked back to the console and looked at the face of Vikkak "You did this Vikkak.." Meldom sighed but Vikkak shouted at him with anger "No Meldom, You did this!, and the files will get sealed and thrown as an accident, but the word will get out that you killed all these people!, you had the chance to let me be a voice of truth.. instead you are just the silence" Meldom looked at vikkak and almost smiled "Terminate connection" a second after this command was activated the face of Ikkak stopped transmitting and it was replaced with the planet again, people going about their lives unaware of the incoming death Meldom stood with his hands behind his back, head down and eyes closed as he watched and listened to all the conversations.
"Yeah but im not sure if shes the right one.."
"I don't know, but i look stupid in that"
"You think so ?, i thought he was just a lying scoundrel"
"If we could get a ship and crew together.."
"Look mommy.."
A tiny voice stood out to Meldom more then all the others he opened his eyes and looked at the screen, it was a small salarian girl holding a doll pointing to the sky at the nukes that could now be seen with a smoky trails scattered all around the sky the mother looked up and stood there for a moment before grabbing her child "Run!" the room could faintly hear from the audio, the Vi popped to life.
"Three.. two.. one.." a orange glow could be seen from three locations on the planet, all of the networks cameras fizzed and ceased to work causing the room to plunge into darkness apart from the lights and the Vi, "Estimating.. all lifeforms terminated.. Estimated civilian casualties over one million.. all that remains.. is silence" Meldom looked at the console and back to the other salarians "It..was..only way..STG will send cleanup.." he said with a heavy heart as he left he could here the salarians muttering calling him horrible names, and saying how vikkak was right and how Meldom just left silence" before returning to his ship, heading back to Sur'Kesh to face judgement on weather his actions were acceptable.
(Took me around a hour to come up with, will post part two of what happened when Meldom gets to sur'Kesh later as its 2am for me, probably expect in 8-9 hours)
