She cocked her head in surprise as he apologized. She had not expected such a response.
Perhaps he is not as prejudiced as I thought, she mused. And maybe I am a little too quick to judge.
"Apology accepted, Eric Lysander," she said as she resumed her scanning. "So, just to prevent any other...misunderstandings, is there anything else you would like to know about my people? Besides what we look like under our suits?"

Eric chuckled to himself and shook his head. Down boy...
He turned to one side to accomodate where Shala was passing her omnitool. "Well... I've overheard quarians talkin' bout being on Pilgrimage. What planets or stars do you make a Pilgrimage to and how often do you have to make one? On Earth, humans who follow the religion Islam have to make a pilgrimage to a city called Mecca at least once in their lifetime to pray."

"We go wherever there are other people, whether it be a planet, a colony, a space station, even another ship--as long as it isn't quarian," she said. "We stay there until we acquire something of value, provided we have not harmed another--"
...she swung the shotgun desperately, hitting the batarian in the head...
"--and then return to the Fleet with it and present it to the captain of another ship we wish to join. As for how often, it is only once, though a quarian can be given permission to leave the Fleet on a mission deemed vital to our welfare. That's how I'm here. I'll probably take the money I earn on this mission and buy a used ship. That's something we can always use more of."

Eric listened intently as Shala explained the quarian rite of passage, beginning to nurse an idea, weighing its pros and cons.
"So that's what's it's about, mmmm... there're other ways to earn some decent creds in the galaxy," he observed. "But they usually require creds to start with and they're a longer haul before you start seein' any profit. Mineral prospectin' for one - that's what I was shootin' for..."
He turned about again at Shala's directive. "So... is there anything you always wanted to know about humans... but were afraid to ask?"

Shala considered his question. In honesty, there was nothing she could think of to ask, but she didn't want to give the impression she wasn't interested.
Her omnitool chirped, letting her know the scan was complete.
She looked over the readout. "Nothing seriously wrong, just a few minor repairs are needed," she said and rooted around in the strong box for the appropriate parts.
As she looked for the parts, a question suddenly came to her. "What do you think of Cerberus?" she asked, turning to face him.

"Cerberus?" said Eric, consulting his omnitool briefly for an unrelated item. "Bunch o' pro-human nuts... armed and organized pro-human nuts. Say they're for defending human interests, so why did I find humans bein' experimented on along with non-humans, eh...? You ask me, it's just cover for some mad scientists to work outside the law."
Shala began installing the first of the replacment parts as he chuckled out "These assholes actually believe that people like you - non-humans - don't have souls! They should check a mirror sometime... and they should have a chat with the geth. Those shit mechs don't have souls, either..."
He shuddered, holding down a laugh, remebering back to that one mission years earlier "Come to think of it, they did... guess it didn't work out..."

Shala's interest peaked up at the mention of the robotic race that had driven her people from their homeworld nearly three centuries ago. "What do you mean, Cerberus 'had a chat with the geth'?" she asked.

Eric thought back to his conversation in the Valiant's shuttle bay with Murdach and Maelstrom where he divulged his experience with Cerberus. The jumpy mercenary in black armor seemed to have a score to settle with the rogue military unit. No illusions as to why.
"Classified info, so you didn't hear it from me," Eric's tone lowered. "Found a Cerberus base years ago where they caught themselves one, tried to strip it down, reverse engineer it... I shit you not, you heard right: there were geth scurrying around our borders before the attack on Eden Prime! Probably scouts gatherin' intel, probing for weak points. Well Cerberus' little science project turned on them... and I flattened every last one of those clankers before they could get out!"

Having taken care of his prisoner, Cruendi'has refilled his thermal clips and grenades. He noticed the Quarian, Shala, refitting Eric Lysander. "... and I flattened every last one of those clankers before they could get out!" the former Alliance operative said excitedly. The Batarian walked up to them and held out his hand to the human. "Good work back there, both in your leadership and saving River."

Shala jumped, startled at the batarian's appearance.
"Good work, back there, both in your leadership and saving River," he said to Eric Lysander, offering his hand.
She found herself annoyed at his intrusion into their conversation. While they were not in a private area, such a discussion, especially about the geth, demanded she get all the information she could as quickly as possible.
"Perhaps you should go check on her, she's in the medical bay," she said, hoping he would get the hint.

Eric looked up to see Cruendi'has approach with a hand extended. "Good work back there, both in your leadership and saving River," the batarian commended.
The N7 veteran's right arm began to move upward and then stopped short; Shala was still working on him and she had shifted into its path. He crooked his arm carefully up and over her head to complete the handshake.
"Good job commandeering the turret and gettin' Fearless Leader's prisoner," returned Eric, bringing his arm back down to his side with the same level of care and consideration for his engineer friend. "If we hadda deal with those guns, this mission would've been a lot... harder..."
He went quiet and his enthusiam dimmed slightly. The mission did not entirely go without cost, after all.
Shala had stopped working. "Perhaps you should go check on her, she's in the medical bay," she said with a slight tone.
Eric blinked and nodded to Cruendi'has in a manner to suggest that the batarian probably should comply with her request; they could speak after his armor was repaired.

GM Post: Part 1 - The state of River
The readout display on River is not good. She's in critical, but stable, condition (meaning she's not in danger of dying, but she needs immediate work). - An analysis of River's implant shows she is an L3, or at least should be an L3. The chip shows signs of heavy modifying. + Unfortunately, fail safes that are normally in place to prevent shorting out are not present in this L3 implant. + The VI does not have data to tell what the effects of the modifications on the implant. There are no known records of the modifications done to the implant. Nothing comes close to it. + The implant is still discharging energy into the surrounding nerve clusters and brain tissue, damaging it. + The VI believes the damage is still treatable. - An analysis of River's nervous system shows light damage, enough to be worrisome, but still treatable. - An analysis of River's brain shows minor hemorrhaging occurring in both the right and left hemispheres, throughout all the lobes of her brain. It is still treatable, though could be troublesome if not treated within five or six hours.
Part 2 will be up in a few hours.

"It was brutal, Murchadh. I'll have to check a few of my own joints when we get back," she responds with mirth, while she applies the protective bubble to the joint for it to be fixed.
She considered to herself that she might need to update her translator again with more information on his dialect, once they go back to the ship.

GM Post - Part Two: The Nithian Base 1. The walls of the base are light brown with red trim. 2. Every door, save for #9 and #10, is open. There are no visible or detectable doors for #9 and #10, though any scan will detect something within. 3. Entering into the place (entrance labeled) is easy. No shields or defense system activates. 4. No light source is seen, but everything within is perfectly visible. 5. There is one 'Keeper' seen at the entrance. Any scan attempted of it will reveal it to be some sort of robot. RP Note: If you want to explore, that's great. In your RP, post which number your character is headed (or you can send me a private message about it) to so I'll be able to give you the information.

"Perhaps you should go check on her, she's in the medical bay," Shala snapped. Cruendi'has gritted his teeth as she "unintentionally" moved between him and Eric. After shaking Cruendi'has' hand, Eric gave a pleading expression and nodded to the med bay. The Batarian rolled his shoulders in a self-relaxing gesture and stepped away from the two. He considered going to check on River and Iskra but thought better of it. He exited the shuttle bay and caught up with Mr. Bridges and the rest of the crew to see what all the excitement was about.

The scot gave a smile in reply as he began to work on getting the rock out of his mech's leg. It was wedged in tightly as it need several tugs and hit from his wrench before with one last tug it fell from the leg joint. " Ah hink we'll aw be glad fur a break especially th' yoong lass." He said to the asrai as he claimed up to the mech's cockpit and pressed several buttons. The mech's leg began moved as it ran through a test procedure. It seemed to be moving perfectly, but he'd still give it a check back onboard the ship. " Cheers fur th' help thaur. eh'd better gie heem back oan he ship." He said jumping down and smiling at Resindra.

Maelstrom paced around the hatch. He wanted to get to work, but there was no way he was going into the unknown alone. It was foolhardy to enter into such a situation without someone watching his back. It was not his place to call for help, though. It was his employer's. Instead, he paced, checking his weapons to be sure he was ready for anything.

Esteban came rushing back to the hole with a lift in tow, after modifying it ever so slightly to work as a makeshift elevator. The lift itself was very common, found at any docking bay or warehouse. It was normally used to move around exceptionally heavy items from point A to point B. What Esteban did to it was not common. The anti-gravity repulsors would be shot after this with the amount of power he was pumping through it, but that wasn't his problem. The thing would have ended up being scrap anyways.
"We can use this to get down there," Esteban stopped close to the edge, easily swinging the lift over the vacant space. It hovered perfectly, exactly as it was supposed to. It vibrated ever so slightly. If there were air around, the thing would probably be humming. "It'll take about three at a time. So who wants to go down with me first?"

"It'll take about three at a time. So who wants to go down with me first?"

"I'll come along, " Maelstrom said. He quickly recovered a small device with a coil of metallic cord from a compartment in his armor. He looped the cord around a sturdy metal outcropping, using the clip to fasten it sturdily. He threw the rest of the coil down the hatch. "I like having a backup, though."
