Joe was already out of his seat and moving before the boss finished speaking, scenarios and courses of action running through his head at the speed of light. Being in the Marines for fourteen years, one learned to be ready to go at a moment's notice.
So, the turian is a clean freak, good to know...

Rather than making his way to the command center, as was requested of him, Maelstrom headed straight for the Vengeance. He tried to shrug off his irritation at his planned meeting with Miss Havens having been put off, especially after having waited for her.
"Emily, begin pre-flight sequence," Maelstrom commanded, as he stepped into his ship, holstering his SMG.
"Are we heading after Cerberus?" his VI replied with simulated enthusiasm. Her curvy holographic form followed him up to the entrance to the cockpit, at which point it flickered onto the small projection pad, displaying her in miniature.
"I doubt it," he replied. "Open a two-way channel over the ship's comms. I want to hear and be heard by all."
"Done," she replied, her manner becoming more direct in response to his obvious haste.
"This is Maelstrom. I'm prepping the Vengeance for takeoff. If we get into a scrape, I figure it's best to try boarding from two points rather than just one."

"...I figure it's best to try boarding from two points rather than just one," Maelstrom said.
Joe smiled. Can take a joke AND a good planner...
The smartass part of him saw the opportunity and pounced. So, do you want a spring or summer wedding?
Joe chuckled.

Electricity arced off to the device and discharged directly into Andrei's hand. "You infuriating little boshtet! You WILL accept this voltage!" he kicked the machinery solidly. The lights in the cargo bay dimmed briefly as the machine started up, a steady hum reverberating across the deck plates. He smiled within his helmet, amused that the Krogan approach actually worked. He held up his omni-tool, synching to the device's controls. He turned and began pacing, unconciously avoiding the scattered wires and cables. He'd only been allowed a couple of small crates from his personal vessel before Maelstrom evacuated him and his assistant. But it was enough for him to begin rebuilding his grand experiment. He reached out to pat on the machine affectionately, only to recieve another high voltage shock. "DAMN, I had better get a warning sign. Along with..." he began compiling a list of components and equipment he'd need to complete his Project Overlord upgrade.
"This is Maelstrom. I'm prepping the Vengeance for takeoff. If we get into a scrape, I figure it's best to try boarding from two points rather than just one." Maelstrom's voice over the ship's intercom broke his concentration. "An excellent idea, multiple points of entry would force the enemy to spread out their forces. Works against Geth for a short time, could be effective against a true Hive Mind."
(Yes, he was completely oblivious to the general announcement. Too absorbed in his work.)

Heavy footsteps echoed through the ship as the scot raised up from the cargo bay. His hands where covered in mech fluid and grease which he was attempting to wipe off onto his trousers. Trust him to have been installing the new module onto Thor as they get an SOS. Arriving in the command station he gave a weak smile to the people already there. Time to see what everyone else wanted to do.

By the time Joe had reached the command station, he had come up with plan, the only drawback that he could currently see being the limited number of personnel.
Well, with surprise on our side and a whole lot of luck, we might be able to pull this off...
He reached the command station and was surprised to see he was the second to arrive, the first being the Scottish mech pilot.
Shit, forgot about him...
He had learned long ago that a Marine's morale was directly tied to how useful he felt he was to the team. If he felt he wasn't valued, his morale would drop and he would quickly turn from an asset into a liability.
His mind raced as he worked on a plan to include the mech, each one more outlandish than the last.
An idea came to him and he almost discarded it. It was unlikely the mech would come into play that way, but it was better than nothing; it depended on a piece of information.
He approached the Scotsman and said, "I've got a question about your boy. Does his feet have magnetic clamps?"

Artacus took a step into the command station, glancing around the room. It would seem that he wasn't the only one already here. The mech pilot seemed to be the first one while the bigshot human was the second. He set down his duffle back near his feet, waiting for everyone else to arrive.

"Not heard a thing since the last job, guess he had a better one lined up or was busy with batarian things.." said Meldom, his voice trailing off "So what do you think of the new people?"
Eric propped an elbow on a tucked arm, stroking his chin.
"Honestly? First impressions? Andrei... sounds like he knows tech stuff cold. But his bedside manner could use work. Shala for all her issues was at least more approachable. Karn's... being patient with us; I'll give 'em credit for that. Krogan have a rep for bein' muscleheaded but some do have brains as well as brawn. Like to see what he adds to our merry little band. Joe Fischer... real confident. He's N7; a good reason ta be. Earning that distinction, among humans, is nothin' ta sneeze at. But there's something different 'bout what pushes him. Not like how I came up. Somethin'..."
A straining voice came over the Valiant's PA system "Pavalen-Clan... we invoke the protection you promised us when we became your client race. We have been boarded by pirates. Please. We cannot hold on for much longer. You need to he...."
Esteban Bridges' voice followed. "Everyone report to the Command Station immediately. You heard the distress beacon. We have to decide what to do."
Before Eric could form a new sentence, Maelstrom contributed to the growing sense of urgency aboard ship. "This is Maelstrom. I'm prepping the Vengeance for takeoff. If we get into a scrape, I figure it's best to try boarding from two points rather than just one."
Eric shrugged at Meldom.
"Well... looks like we get to see 'im in action sooner than we planned. Let's go!" he said before heading for the command station.

Meldom nodded and followed after Eric

Esteban turned, greeting the arriving crew members. He wore a grim expression and a dark gray business suit, the embodiment of seriousness. There was a gravity to this situation that none could deny.
"Please," he gestured to one of the many sub-stations around the Command Station, nodding a greeting. "We need to decide quickly. Maelstrom made his decision, but what about all of you. Do we fight or not?"
Esteban pressed one of the hundreds of holographic buttons on the panel before him, opening up the comm channel with Maelstrom. He cleared his throat. "I need you to hold while everyone makes their decision," he said calmly. "It would be best if we knew what sort of team that'll be going in."

"Boss, before we ride in and save the day, I think we need to know if the day needs saving," Joe said, going to a substation and looking up schematics of volus cargo vessels. "Wouldn't be the first time a distress call was the lure for a trap."
Dammit, where the hell is everybody?

Andrei's omni-tool pulsed at him as he typed and worked, the VI programming urging him to pay attention. He blinked within his helmet, "What? Why am I being interrupted?" The VI replayed what Esteban had just broadcast. <"Pavalen-Clan...> He recognized the heavy breathing, <We invoke the protection you promised us when we became your client race. We have been boarded by pirates. Please. We cannot hold on for much longer. You need to he...."
Esteban followed after the little ammonia-sucker, <"Everyone report to the Command Station immediately. You heard the distress beacon. We have to decide what to do."> The Quarian scientist shook his head, "Interruptions, interruptions. These Humans have a knack for getting in the way of progress." Andrei turned towards the stairs with a long sigh, passing by Maelstrom as he worked inside his shuttle, and began his journey across the frigate.
As he stepped onto the Command Deck, he looked around, seeing the others already gathered, but also that the basic Turian setup had not changed. A smile danced across his lips as he remembered his youth with Haliat Armory. He was on a ship not unlike this one, watching the Turians subjugate Humanity. How ironic that this ship would end up in the hands of the very race that it was probably used against. "So I take it that we are considering assisting the Volus ship?" he asked aloud, his head aimed directly at Esteban.

Eric and Meldom entered the command bay as the junior N7 spoke.
"Boss, before we ride in and save the day, I think we need to know if the day needs saving," Joe said, going to a substation and looking up schematics of volus cargo vessels. "Wouldn't be the first time a distress call was the lure for a trap."
The senior N7 looked to Esteban. "He's right. Volus usually shell out top credit for security unless they're the stingy variety and opted for the discount package. Trap or not, good chance these pirates'll packin' some major heat. "
He then went to look over Joe's shoulder. "You can cross Bultas Shipping off your list; only somebody with zero sense or a death wish'll have the balls to try and take one on. Top o' the line security and crates even their best tech and demo guys couldn't crack... believe me, I should know..."
Back to Esteban. "Do you have a point of origin on the S.O.S.?"
"So I take it that we are considering assisting the Volus ship?" Andrei asked aloud, joining the others on deck, his head aimed directly at Esteban.

Murchadh turned to face the new guy giving him a slight smile. " He diz but if ye thinkin' whit Ah hink yoo're thinkin' Ah wooldnae recommend it." He replied still trying to wipe the grease from his hands.

The turian listened silently to the others about what to do. He himself was thinking on a plan of his own, but he required the overgrown lizard for it. He waited for the krogan to appear, but still no sign of him. "That lizard is fucking slow.." He thought, looking to the others. "It is true that Volus' can be bought real easily. But despite that, I'd rather take a look at the S.O.S" He responded.

Joe smiled at the Scotsman. "We'll see," he said.
If Karn and Mr. Shy show up, maybe we can get this ball rolling...
He then opened up a channel to Maelstrom. "Hey Maelstrom, Joe Fischer here," he said. "What other guns do you have on your shuttle besides the turret?"

Iskra walked quietly down the corridor to Command. She was in no particular rush, her opinion wasn't important in this matter. Though, if she were honest with herself, that was an incredibly bratty thought on her part. She was still furious with the revelation of the Collector that had been captured, she had neither agreed, or wanted, to be apart of an outfit that so callously okay with taking prisoners.
Her white coat flicked as her pace unconsciously sped up the last few feet into the room. Her eyes flicked over the few that were in there before she took a seat on a crate against a wall, crossing her arms and legs as she sat back and listened.

"Hey Maelstrom, Joe Fischer here," the newcomer called in a new channel. "What other guns do you have on your shuttle besides the turret?"
He weighed whether or not to disclose more information about his craft. It was always a sensitive point for him, to discuss his vessel's specifications. Fischer was crew, though, so he decided to take a chance.
"Two forward-mounted antipersonnel weapons emplacements. Right rate of fire but limited firing arc. They're accurate but not capable of precision shooting."
"I also have an M-1130 Cain," he said. "Custom unit. It's limited to one shot before reload, which must be done manually and is a bit of a hassle with the mounting and firing mechanisms."

As Maelstrom relayed the information about his onboard weaponry, Joe caught movement out of the corner of his eye.
Turning his head slightly, using his peripheral vision, he could see it was a drell female. He hadn't had any encounters with drell, let alone their females; he would occasionally see one in passing as his job took him all over the galaxy, but he had never actually talked with one. He saw her take a seat on a crate against a wall and cross her arms and legs, her body language showing she'd rather be anywhere but there.
...a figure decloaking next to Maelstrom, hood up, not saying a single word during the meeting...
"...and is a bit of a hassle with the mounting and firing mechanisms," Maelstrom finished.
"That's a good copy, Maelstrom, thanks," Joe said. "Fischer out."
He then turned to Lysander and asked in a low voice, "The drell that just showed up, was she the shy one at the meeting?"

"Yep. Iskra Narei, team scientist for our last outing," Eric replied in the same low tone. "Shy, jumpy at times but she's pretty handy with biotics and a sniper rifle."
Eric commandeered a console near Joe and attempted to call up star charts.
"Anyone have a fix on the volus ship's position? I'll check the surrounding systems. It may give us a clue on who our pirates are."
