"Andrei… anything in your bag o’ tricks that can hack armor? To keep the pirates breathin’ but not movin’. Then we can use their own ship to drag back the volus to civilization and the authorities.”
Andrei shook his head, "I highly doubt that they will be using powered armor. Biotic Stasis would be better utilized if any of you can do it. Once I handle the countermeasures I can attempt to broadcast garbage data to their targeting systems, mess them up a bit. Can't promise that it won't affect you all, however. I haven't been given PERMISSION to work with your hard suits, and it would take several hours to safeguard your systems from it."

Meldom was listening to everything that was being said he was slightly agitated of what Esteban said about allowing the pirates to live as the others said, they would take up food and someone would have to end up watching them.
"Andrei… anything in your bag o’ tricks that can hack armor? To keep the pirates breathin’ but not movin’. Then we can use their own ship to drag back the volus to civilization and the authorities.”
Though the question was directed at someone else Meldom thought on it his training in STG gave him several unique ways of keeping people breathing but not moving, most was combat orientated and involved permanently or temporally disabling the limbs but since he was a chemist he did dabble in other things, probably nothing this group would approve of so he kept them to himself.
He addressed Esteban "You would give these people a second chance after they attack those who could not defend themselves, seen that happen before, never worked well for anyone involved, most squander the second chance regardless.."
He seemed unhappy with the prospect of holding back if the pirates did in fact surrender.
Letting out a sigh he leaned forward on the command table "Just don't expect me to go easy on them if they do surrender some behavior may need..." he paused for dramatic effect "Correcting.. one way or another"

Esteban pinched the bridge of his nose, shaking his head. He read between the lines, reading the reactions everyone had. He knew he should have seen this coming.
"Let me put it another way," he sighed. "People who have nothing to lose. People who believe they are going to die. They are the ones who will fight the hardest and behave the most erratic. They will be more likely to kill the remaining Volus, blow themselves up, and do actions that I cannot imagine. And...."
Esteban straightened up, making sure to make eye contact with everyone there. "Taking them alive gives us leverage. The Volus will most likely want to have them delivered to them for trial. Chances are, this means rewards and earning good will, which goes a long way with the Volus. Killing them would be easy, but NOT as lucrative. Correct me if I'm wrong, but mercenaries are in business to make money, not take the easy route."

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but mercenaries are in business to make money, not take the easy route," Bridges said.
"The first and foremost business of a mercenary," Maelstrom corrected, "is staying alive. Leaving people to chase after you is bad for that business."

Looking at the boss, Joe could tell this was a man willing to make the hard choices and stick with them. During his time in the Marines, he had seen all kinds of leaders, from good to bad and all parts in between. It is said the bad leader isn't the one who makes a bad decision, but the one who makes none at all. The boss had made his, and it was up to them to follow it, whether they agreed with it or not.
"Maelstrom, let it go," he said gently. "The boss has made his decision and if you were up here, you would see he's not budging. We can argue about this more, but all that's going to do is get more volus killed."
He looked back over at Bridges. "Just so we're clear boss, are you saying we can fight them using lethal weaponry, but if they surrender we accept it? Or are we to use non-lethal weaponry the whole way through?"

[GM Note]
"We're exiting the relay system now," Torrez announced through the comm channel while his hand slid across the many holographic interfaces of the Valiant. "Dropping down to sublight speeds. Twenty minutes from the Volus ship."
The Valiant subtly jolted, the inertial dampeners kicking in nearly instantaneously to allow for a smooth transition. Thomas veered hard to port, disappearing into the vast emptiness of space.
"Awaiting orders."
------------------------------------------
Battle time!
The battle is meant to be quick and easy, in three parts. The first part is the initial assault. The initial assault is the infiltration of the ship. The second part is the battle against the pirates. The third part is securing the assets, in this case the Volus survivors.
The Volus ship appears closer to a dark gray rectangular prism than an actual ship. It has multiple venting systems (access points) and a couple of docking ports. One of the docking ports is occupied by the pirate ship. The pirate ship is an adhoc vessel, made up of dozens of vessels from every race throughout the known galaxy. It looked like a chimera. The engines for the Volus ship was badly damaged. The engines for the pirate ship was cooling.
The status of the ships (security systems, etc) and pirates within are mook-level. None of them should present a challenge to the PC. Have fun with it. Depending on what your character does, I can drop additional information which may be relevant to your character or on what is going on in the galaxy

"We're exiting the relay system now," Torrez announced through the comm channel while his hand slid across the many holographic interfaces of the Valiant. "Dropping down to sublight speeds. Twenty minutes from the Volus ship… awaiting orders."
Eric rolled his neck and shoulders. “Maintain distance for now, Torrez. Keep us outta sensor range.”
He looked over the rest of the group at the command center. “Almost magic time, guys; time to pick your teams. Andrei… looks like you’ll be headin’ up the espionage group. You may wanna head in on the Vengeance and then work your way through either with an assault team or from another point outside the ships. Unless there’re any objections, I’ll lead the assault team from the Vengeance and Joe’ll take the team from the Valiant. Mal‘ll fly in, drop off Andrei’s group first. Once he and his gang’ve taken positions and worked their magic, my team can move in and try to convince the pirates to stand down peaceably. Whether that works out or not, they’ll be occupied while the Valiant docks at the other side and Joe’s team boxes ‘em in. I recommend only snipers should try for shots with lethal ammo if necessary. Just grazing a volus can be fatal for them.”

The turian uncrossed his arms and leaned down, grabbing his duffle bag and slinging it over his shoulder. He then proceeded to leave the command station and go back to his room. Once he got to his room, he set down the bag and zipped it open. All of his armor and weapons lay inside, all in clean and pristine condition. He starts to strap on his armor, piece by piece. Artacus takes out his sniper rifle and clips it onto his back. "I got my sniper rifle, all set here." The turian responded through the comm channel, moving into position.

Esteban nodded with a grim smile. He admired Eric's candor and acumen for leadership. His eyes remained on the console before him, paying attention to the thousands of numbers and graphs flashing by on the screen. He didn't want to be taken off guard by anything else that could happen on this mission.
"I wish to be on your team Eric," the businessman said, quickly tapping on the screen. He thought he saw something on one of the graphs that flashed by. He examined the bell-shaped curve carefully, his eyes searching the image. "I can gain access to the Volus ship easier and coordinate with Andrei in case the pirates were using cyberwarfare."

"Okay, so we've got Andrei on the espionage team, so I'm assuming that means Meldon and Iskra, right?" Joe said. "And the boss is going with you, old man, so that leaves Karn, Arcturus and Murchadh with me?"

Artacus disappeared from the command center. A minute later he was heard over the comms. "I got my sniper rifle, all set here."
"I wish to be on your team, Eric," said Eric, quickly tapping on the console screen in front of him. "I can gain access to the Volus ship easier and coordinate with Andrei in case the pirates were using cyberwarfare."
Eric nodded his approval.
Joe spoke up next. "Okay, so we've got Andrei on the espionage team, so I'm assuming that means Meldon and Iskra, right? And the boss is going with you, old man, so that leaves Karn, Arcturus and Murchadh with me?"
Eric eyed his N7 compatriot. "Sounds good to me, Junior, but let's see what the other's say first..."
He addressed the other mercenaries. "’kay, so far both assault teams have a sniper, Mr. B and Mal are with me. Everybody else here okay with Joe’s suggestions?”

Meldom nodded "Just don't expect me to go to easy on them.." he sighed as he looked around noticing Iskra for the first time he walked over and sat next to her "Guess you got stuck with me" he joked lightly.

Joe looked over at Murchadh. "Do you have personal armor and a weapon?" he asked. "If not, you can help out Maelstrom, I'm not letting one of my people go in buck-ass naked."
He then looked over at his fellow N7. "I've done a couple of these before," he said. "Pirates can usually be found in three places: the bridge, the engine room and the cargo hold. You can take the bridge--the leader is usually there, maybe you can talk him down--while I take the engine room and hold."

It took Joe a minute to work his way through Murchadh's thick accent. Good grief, it's thicker than a krogan's armor, he thought.
The Scot's response now fully translated, he nodded. "Okay, I'm putting you with Karn, you two can clear out the hold," he said. "Arcturus, you and me are going to clear out the engine room, unless someone has a better idea."
He had to admit he wasn't completely comfortable with his plan; normally when working with new people, there would be endless training scenarios run to ensure he fully integrated into the team, but he realized with an inner sigh this was yet another downside of his new career.
And I'll just have to hope Murchadh is as good out of his mech as he is in it, he thought, and then shook his head, smiling slightly. Gunny Hartman would go ape-shit if she heard me say that...

"Arcturus, you and me are going to clear out the engine room, unless someone has a better idea."
The turian scowled at his response, heading to his position. "It's Artacus.. i'm not that damn space station." He said through the comms, growling. "Anyway, i'm heading my there now. You better be ready.." The turian was insulted by the human for misspelling his name. He's either deaf or just moronic to name him after that human space station. How where that and his name similar? He shrugged the thought out of his head and kept going.

Iskra smiled at the Salarian. She had missed a mind that understood her work, and that shared her affinity for the shadows.
"It's a pleasure as always, Meldom."

"It's Artacus, not that damn space station," the turian replied.
Joe winced as he knew that what little goodwill he had earned had just been erased. He had made it a point to address new people by their last name, not a nickname, and pronouncing it correctly. It was a little thing, but he believed respect was something to be earned, not given, and getting a person's name correctly, especially the difficult ones, could go a long way to earning their respect.
Looks like I owe him one...

Eric turned to address the remaining people with his same cocksure attitude. "’kay, so far both assault teams have a sniper, Mr. B and Mal are with me. Everybody else here okay with Joe’s suggestions?”
"It is a sound plan," Esteban commented, closing the interface with a flick of his wrist. "I need a few minutes to grab my equipment from the docking bay."
Esteban pointed with his thumb, gesturing toward the stairs down. He knew he'd be in good hands with Eric Lysander. The guy could probably charm a nuclear weapon out of exploding. If anything went wrong, he figured Eric would be able to find a way out. He glanced back at Joe. "Good plan."

Eric pat his hand about his armaments, smirking. "I think I can make a good case for his surrender."
Meldom and Iskra acknowledged their pairing for this mission, both skilled in the art of stealth and the silent kill. Artacus bristled at Joe's mangling of his name. Hopefully it would not severely hamper his contribution to the team's efforts.
"It is a sound plan," Esteban commented, closing the interface with a flick of his wrist. "I need a few minutes to grab my equipment from the docking bay."
He then looked to the other N7 "Good plan."
Eric nodded to his employer and punched in his palm before his chest. "Alright. Torrez, give Vengeance about ten minutes lead time once she debarks before heading in. By the time you dock Andrei's group and mine should be in the middle o' makin' our introductions. If we're all okay with our assignments... let's grab our gear and bag us some scurvy space dogs!"
