Too fucking long, he thought as he waited for the VI to respond.
Then the idea hit him.
The drones.
He remembered Shepard touching on the Alarei incident during his interview with Emily Wong, mentioning how the geth repurposed parts of the ship in order to build more of themselves.
He opened up a channel to the team.
“Hey everybody, it’s Fischer,” he said. “In case you haven’t noticed, there are drones moving about the ship carrying parts, and I’ll bet my next paycheck they’re going to wherever the geth are trying to make more of themselves. Follow them, and we’ll find the geth.”
He closed the channel, then opened one up to Emily’s owner.
“Maelstrom, it’s Fischer,” he said. “Your girl is lovely, but right now she’s about as useful as a screen door on a submarine. This situation is my fault, and I’m going to fix it. If I don’t make it back, well…you’re the most uptight motherfucker I ever met who wasn’t a turian, you play the cowboy way too much and you've got severe trust issues. But you’re solid in a fight, I could do a lot worse for a battle buddy. Fischer out.”
He closed the channel, then opened one up to Lysander.
“Pops, you were right,” he said. “A million times over, you were right, but I didn’t listen, and now we’re FUBAR because of it. I’m going to fix it or die trying. If I don’t make it back…say hi to Shepard for me.”
He closed the channel and left the shuttle in search of drones.

“It is not here,” Naetilia said, unable to locate her cybernetic companion. Eric ran his fingers through his hair. “Jesus Christ! That thing’s a stun gun with legs! It’ll zap half the crew unless-“
The door in front of them suddenly opened up with enough clearance for them to get through. Marcius looked proud of himself as he held the sides apart like a turian Samson, grinning in that particular mandibular way that only his species could.
"You two ready to get out of here?" he said.
“Been ready,” Eric answered as he checked his omni-tool. Another announcement came in, this time over his earpiece.
“Hey everybody, it’s Fischer,” he said. “In case you haven’t noticed, there are drones moving about the ship carrying parts, and I’ll bet my next paycheck they’re going to wherever the geth are trying to make more of themselves. Follow them, and we’ll find the geth.”
“Ya think?” grumbled the senior N7 before addressing the turians. “I’m headin’ for my stash down in th’ hangar bay for EMP grenades. You two check on Torrez and the crew on this level – we’ll need them to help lockin’ down all systems so the geth can’t open a channel out when Bridges starts deletin’ ‘em. And shut down any unencrypted wireless data links you two have on your omni-tools – don’t give th’ geth another place ta hide!”
Eric’s earpiece crackled on again.
“Pops, you were right,” said Joe over the comm. “A million times over, you were right, but I didn’t listen, and now we’re FUBAR because of it. I’m going to fix it or die trying. If I don’t make it back…say hi to Shepard for me.”
Exasperated breath escaped through nostrils over a tense lip. Then a hand to an earpiece.
“You’re not goin’ in alone, shithead! If you’re gonna fight these things, fight ‘em with someone who knows how. And I’d rethink your armor if I were you. If they’re buildin’ themselves bodies your gear’ll make great material…”
Eric thought of his own equipment down in the hangar. It was secured in lockers and crates but the Kestrel armor was still exposed along with the weapons still clipped to it.
“… so could mine, for that matter…”

Man decides to single-handedly take on a geth WHILE HE'S NAKED, and I'm the cowboy?
Maelstrom shook his head, before pointing his gun at another drone and holding down the trigger. It was not exactly a trail of breadcrumbs, but Maelstrom started moving in the direction of the drone he had downed earlier.

Naetilia shook her head.
“Respectfully, Lysander, leaving behind two people to look after an area that has been secured while you go into unknown territory alone is unwise,” she said. “You could benefit from someone accompanying you.”
She looked over at Maricus.
“Sir, I suggest you go with him,” she said. “I will tend to any wounded here.”

Meldom used this time while in the docking bay to switch into his Armour, he had still not finished with the thermal padding and so several small plates were missing from the Armour in question, he however thought it was better then nothing and started to suit up, then he trailed after Maelstrom as he followed the drone.
"If geth in system this could be problematic, especially if they decide to assault the ship conventionally, a cyber attack with a invasion would be difficult to recover from" he stated as they walked.

"That's why I've got Emily on lockdown," Maelstrom agreed. "No way in for a cyber-attack means that we at least have half a shot of escaping if this proves too much for us." He visually scanned the area for holographic combat drones but found none. There was, however, another physical drone carrying components, and he started after it. "Not that I intend on letting them have Valiant without a fight, that is."

“Been ready,” the former N7 replied.
Maricus bristled slightly at the man's attitude. Rather than a jovial retort, it seemed more like a commentary on how long it took to accomplish the task.
Then the other N7 made a ship-wide announcement via personal comms.
“Ya think?” Lysander grumbled, before informing the other two of his plan.
By the way Lysander stopped what he was doing and a moment later put a hand to his earpiece, Maricus assumed he was getting a communication from another member of the crew. “You’re not goin’ in alone, shithead! If you’re gonna fight these things, fight ‘em with someone who knows how. And I’d rethink your armor if I were you. If they’re buildin’ themselves bodies your gear’ll make great material…”
Maricus first thought was that the man was speaking to Maelstrom, based on his orders to stand down. A moment more of thought, though, and Maricus doubted an organic armor would make good materials for the geth. With that, his mind turned to Fischer.
“… so could mine, for that matter…”
Then Naetilia chimed in. “Respectfully, Lysander, leaving behind two people to look after an area that has been secured while you go into unknown territory alone is unwise. You could benefit from someone accompanying you.”
Looking to Maricus, she added, “Sir, I suggest you go with him. I will tend to any wounded here.”
Maricus nodded curtly, then extended a hand towards the one patient, slumped backwards against the wall, "It's just Engineer Donnelly at this point. High-voltage electrical shock, if I'm not mistaken."
A thought occurring to him, he added, "Don't leave this post without keeping the rest of the crew apprised as to your position."

She nodded.
"Of course, sir," she said. "Please keep me apprised of your situation."
She then turned to the injured human.

The Engineer got to work.
Today had not gone according to plan, and Esteban could not figure out why. He was always paranoid about AIs, never forgetting how the Geth helped Saren rape Eden Prime or when those AIs tried to help Saren murder millions on the Citadel. Esteban shook his head in disgust at the memory. Quite a few people in the galaxy were willing to forgive them based on a few words from Shepard. But to the Engineer, a mountain of dead outweighed the word of one N7, no matter how respected.
And now, the events on the Valiant confirmed his worst fears.
So the Geth hates organic life. Fine, Esteban thought. I'll give them a reason to hate.
So he got to work, making the impossible look easy. Esteban played this moment out countless times in his mind, the Geth invading his hardware. His response was nothing short of magic.
He wrapped the Geth up, one system at a time. Line by line. Code by code. Inch by inch. Esteban's electronic fingers closed around the invaders. And Esteban knew there would be no escape for the Geth.
He put them in an endless loop. An infinity cage forever closiing on the AI. if the Geth tried to escape another hand closed around them. Their every action created another prison.
Infinite.
"Enjoy your hell," he muttered, finishing the prison for the AI......

"Not that I intend on letting them have Valiant without a fight, that is." Maelstrom replied to him.
"Of course" Meldom said "But we might not have a choice when it comes to it, Hope your shuttle can fit everyone.. and the gear we might want to take." he used his omnitool to make sure that nothing had gone wrong with it "Never fought Geth before, heard of them saw the footage but never had a close encounter, What about you ?"

Maelstrom paused, "Once, but it wasn't hostile towards me. Then again, that was probably just because we had the same goal at the time. Funny how many people want to vaporize Cerberus."

Eric dipped his head quickly, acknowledging the medic's suggestion.
"Don't leave this post without keeping the rest of the crew apprised as to your position," Marcius ordered her.
"Of course, sir," Naetilia said. "Please keep me apprised of your situation."
Leaving her to attend Engineer Donnelly, Eric outlined his plan for his co-employer.
"All right - we gotta get ta Joe 'fore he makes a martyr of himself. But first I'll need to secure my armor down below and grab some EMP grenades. The geth've likely set up shop close to the drive core. We knock out any tech they've hijacked, try to preserve as much of the ship systems as possible. If we have to we cut some hard lines to choke off their power supply. If B-man can't delete 'em we can still starve 'em!"

"Please keep me apprised of your situation."
Maricus nodded his agreement, then followed after Lysander as the man started off.
"All right - we gotta get ta Joe 'fore he makes a martyr of himself. But first I'll need to secure my armor down below and grab some EMP grenades. Maricus nodded. He did not like the prospect of disabling their ship when it was possible that enemies would be coming for them, but it was otherwise a solid plan. "We should have Esteban make certain that no transmissions have been sent from the ship prior to disabling it. Things could turn out very badly for us if we were drifting when a geth ship came to retrieve its own."
With that, he drew his Punisher, not intending to face a ship-full of flamethrower- and overload-equipped drones at point-blank range.

As Naetilia scanned the human, she looked for signs of any additional injuries besides the electrical burns on her hands, namely fractures or any damage to the heart or muscles.
She nodded when the scans came up negative.
“You are fortunate, Engineer Donnelly,” she said as she wrapped one arm around the human, lifted her up and guided her into the medbay to begin treatment.

"Bet that was a fun conversation to have, hard to think they don't all want to kill us" He turned his head checking behind them "Whats all this hate for Cerberus, i mean i know there is plenty of rage directed at them and such but i don't think i ever asked" He paused for a moment.
"Don't have to say anything if you wish, some things are better left in the past, i understand that.

Maelstrom nodded at Meldom's inquiry. It took him a while to think of the best way to phrase things.
"It started with vengeance for personal pain they inflicted," Maelstrom said. "That vengeance showed me what else they had been up to, and it became something of a matter of public service." He paused. "Of course, now it's all kind of mixed together. Vengeance for everyone they've wronged. Protecting the galaxy by fulfilling my goals. Tricky line to walk. Easy to become a monster. I'm not sure I haven't crossed it on a few occasions."
He saw another holographic drone and dispatched it.

Izahm stood in front of the entrance he had been guarding a steady pile of dismantled drones accumulating around him as they tried to bring materials to build the well known Geth bodies, resting before the next wave of drones attempted to gain entry. Two more drones this time escorted by two holographic attack drones come towards him. "Finally a challenge," he says flick his right arm reactivating his Omni-blade, then he brings his left arm around and activates his Omni-shield the large shield's blue light lighting up the area in front of him.
The two holographic drones launch their attacks bolts of electricity arcing towards Izahm only to be intercepted by the Omni-shield. As the drones move closer he flicks his shield off and lunges forward slicing through the first attack drone and after flicking on the Omni-blade for his left arm on the same move pivots on his forward foot and stabs the other drone, half jumping back to reach his previous position flicking off his left Omni-blade and reactivating his Omni-shield. "Who's next?" he says casually smiling.
The two remaining drones hesitate for a second processing the quick removal of their bodyguards then decide to just charge him. He bashes the first drone to the side then lunges at the second slicing its mass effect generator/power core rendering it useless, then he half turns and slices through the first drone which had recovered from his shield bash. "Two down and who knows how many more to go," Izahm says returning to his original position shield forward and ready Omni-blade arm to the side and slightly turned upwards the foot long blade ready to slice.

"We should have Esteban make certain that no transmissions have been sent from the ship prior to disabling it,” Marcius suggested as he brought out his weapon. “Things could turn out very badly for us if we were drifting when a geth ship came to retrieve its own." Eric waved his co-employer along to follow. “If he’s smart, he did. Come on – you radio Bridges while I try n’ raise Joe…”
As they quickly headed down the stairwell to the hangar bay Eric could see out of the corners of his eyes a few drones carting off parts to the geth “nest.” He hoped that his equipment was not among them.
“Joe – come in, Joe. D’ya read me?”
Eric and Marcius reached the storage area where the senior N7 had created his own nest and workshop. From the looks of things the drones had not yet scavenged it. Hauling his armor further back into the space, unclipping his Phalanx pistol from it, he then opened one of his crates to secure EMP grenades. He had only packed four.
“If I’d known I’d be up against geth, I’da brought more,” he complained as he prepared to toss over two grenades to Marcius.
[Marcius may have a response/comment before Joe cuts in over Eric’s comm.]

Time passed.
How much time, Esteban could not say. He was focused on his task. One system after another, his electronic fist closed around the Geth. He wanted to make sure the primary systems were not infected with those... those things. They were like cockroaches to the Engineer.
"Data," Esteban said. He always had to say the VI's name in order for it to respond. It was the easiest way to tell the VI there was an order coming. "Take a message for Eric Lysander and Maricus."
"Yes sir," his VI responded.
Esteban began, speaking simply and directly. "Primary systems are back under ship's control. I'm about to begin on the sensors. Was there anything else I need to focus on before that?"

" Tricky line to walk. Easy to become a monster. I'm not sure I haven't crossed it on a few occasions." Maelstrom finished with as he shot another drone.
Meldom nodded in silence "Can understand that, though you might have crossed the line a few times you always went back to the other side so far, you have not become consumed with revenge as to kill anyone who gets in your way. That's something." he shrugged "All data on Cerberus that i have read has not really painted them in a favorable light, even with the propaganda they put out."
He continued on "Seems like if an organization got as big and as much as a threat your own people should have done something about it, not that Im implying they are not but you never hear of alliance raids against Cerberus.. Officially anyway."
