The mech had trailed the drone carrying parts to the upper level when it was confronted by an attack drone.
The drone swooped in and fired an electrical discharge, momentarily freezing the mech as it rerouted the excess energy.
The mech’s eyes changed from blue to red and it growled as it entered combat mode.
The drone darted in once again and attacked before the mech could counter it.
The mech computed that the current situation was not to its advantage. Increase elevation to negate aerial capabilities of opponent, its defensive subroutine determined.
The mech backed up into the eating area, dodging several more attacks from the drone.
-----
Once inside the eating area, it leapt up onto one of the tables, tracking the drone as it flitted about.
The drone paused momentarily, then swooped in.
The mech's tracking subroutine processed the drone’s speed and angle, which then provided its information to the attack subroutine. Combined with its movement subroutine, it computed the proper moment to attack.
All of this happened in a microsecond.
The mech leapt, activating its own Overload attack, striking the drone, causing it to freeze, but it had no time to reroute the excess energy as the mech slammed into it, driving it to the floor.
The mech landed and scanned its opponent for any activity.
The drone struggled to rise again, but the mech gave it no quarter, activating its Overload attack again.
The drone stopped moving. An additional scan determined it was non-mission capable and therefore not a threat, and the mech returned to normal operations, scanning for its original target.
The drone carrying parts was gone.
The mech stood still as its tracking subroutine took the drone’s previous heading and speed and projected its intended course.
Once the course was computed, the mech resumed its original mission.

Somehow, the salarian's words made him feel some better.
"Seems like if an organization got as big and as much as a threat your own people should have done something about it, not that Im implying they are not but you never hear of alliance raids against Cerberus.. Officially anyway."
"Organization that big," Maelstrom said, "they know how to put money in the right hands. For all the men in the military who would probably relish a chance at taking Cerberus down for good, there's always some politician or corrupt officer above them who can keep them from doing so."
With that, Maelstrom started up, heading to the next deck. Here and there, he saw drones disappearing, heading towards the next upward access. "That's why crazy assholes like me are necessary."

Barely a moment after Lysander suggesting he contact Bridges, the pair of them arrived at their destination. The N7 was quickly trying his own comms.
They quickly rifled through the items, with Lysander quickly finding his grenades. The man tossed two over, as he commented about how he would have brought more had he realized the danger they would be facing.
Just then, his business partner came in over comms. "Primary systems are back under ship's control. I'm about to begin on the sensors. Was there anything else I need to focus on before that?"
Maricus nodded, mostly to himself. Tapping his comms, he said, "Long range communications. We don't want it calling for backup while we're still compromised."

Eric stuffed the two grenades into his jacket pockets and armed his Phalanx with cryo and concussion rounds, making a mental note to check the market for EMP rounds on a future restocking trip. He tried his comms again as Marcius was engaged with his. “Joe…! Come in Joe! What’s your position? Caenilus n’ me are on our way… ANSWER, GODDAMIT!!!”
Eric composed himself.
“Still can’t reach Joe,” he explained to his co-employer. “How’s Bridges doin’?”

[GM Note] Nascent Geth Rebellion - If the PCs do not stop the Geth from leaving the ship, the heretic Geth may be able to take control of the Collective using Legion's own virus - So good luck! The set up... The first part of the Nascent Geth Rebellion - Enemy that PCs will encounter - 1 Proto-Geth Juggernaut - For the purposes of this fight, treat the Geth as a mini-boss. It does not have the same strengths as a normal Juggeraut. This means, it does not have any shielding. It is also equipped with weapons that the PCs left laying around. It is currently using a Collector Assault Rifle and has a few grenades from the Collector base at ready. It is what is waiting for the PCs - The PCs need to find a way to disable the transmitter. Bridges (I will do a post later today, but please do not wait for me) will say that it would take him too long to disable the transmitter electronically and the group needs to do what it takes to take it out immediately. There's your tasks. Good luck

The oddest part about Joe’s search was that he was doing it without his armor. He had read that as late as the 20th century Marines were going into combat with no protection other than a helmet, and he could not fathom fighting while so exposed.
Well, now you will, he thought. Assuming you survive.
*****
A quick search of the shuttle bay revealed no drones, so he moved up to the main level.
He saw that the new doctor was working on one of the crew, and it looked like Torrez was back to doing his job.
Movement out of the corner of his eye caught his attention, and he saw a drone carrying parts flying away from one of the work stations, accompanied by a combat drone.
The combat drone stopped and turned in his direction, and he wondered for a second how it detected him before it was upon him.
He tried drawing a bead on it, but it swooped and spun and circled with skill equal to that of the best fighter pilots, before darting in, firing an electrical shock, and darting out.
“If you think you’re going to get the better of me, you got another thing coming,” he challenged.
It may have understood him, because it immediately darted in, shocked him and darted out again.
Okay, you’re too slow to catch up to it, the tactician within him said. So what are you going to do?
“Slow it down, of course,” he said, an idea forming.
He backed away from the drone until he reached one of the workstations.
“Come on, Sparky,” he said, beckoning it. “Bet you can’t go three for three.”
It darted in, and just as it fired its electric shock, he sidestepped.
The shock struck the workstation, causing it to overload and violently discharge the excess energy, which struck the nearest object—the drone—and it fell to the deck with an unceremonious thump.
“Told you,” he said to the smoking remains. “I’ll be damned if my epitaph reads, ‘Got Killed By A Drone’.”
He started going in the direction he last saw the mule drone heading, but then stopped and looked back at the smoking ruin of the workstation.
He sighed as he opened a channel to his employer.
“Boss, it’s Fischer,” he said. “I’m here on the main deck and I just took out a combat drone by leading it into one of the workstations, and the workstation gave its life to take out the drone.
“I think we both know how all this started, and I’m going to stop it before it gets any worse or die trying,” he said. “Whatever damage is inflicted on the ship, just dock my pay for the cost of repairs. Fischer out.”

Esteban took a moment to listen to Joseph's confession, wiping a little bit of sweat from his brow. Though Joseph did conclude, he saw the channel was still open. So the Engineer took a deep breath before speaking.
"Target the power source of any Geth platform unit you encounter. The resulting surge will damage it greatly, making it easier to take out."
He quickly typed something into his omnitool and waved it the panel over his head, access the ship's internal systems. He pursed his lips as he watched a diagnostic runthrough....

Joe considered not only what his employer said, but also the meaning behind them.
Even after that, he's able to stay focused, he thought. Yeah, definitely a good C.O.
"Good copy on that, boss," he said. "Fischer out."
*****
He made his way up to the upper level, alert for any more drones, but didn’t find any.
Instead he found Naetilia’s mech.
“Hey there boy, how are you?” he said as calmly as he could.
He set down the Typhoon, dropped to one knee and offered his hand.
“Remember me?” he asked.
The hand he offered was the one without the omnitool equipped in it; as for that hand, he hid it behind his back and activated the omniblade, thinking back to how Shepard described his initial meeting with Grunt, a tank-bred krogan: Offer one hand, arm the other.
The mech walked slowly towards him and looked at the offered hand. If it had been a real dog, he expected this would be the part would it sniffed him in order to determine whether he was friend or an enemy.
Perfect record so far, he thought. Let’s see if it holds.
After a few seconds, it stepped forward and made the same sound that had elicited a rub from its owner.
He relaxed, deactivated the omnitool and petted it, which caused it to nuzzle against him.
“What were you doing up here, boy, hmm?” he asked. “Looking for geth, maybe?”
It made a noise that sounded like an affirmative bark to him.
“Okay then, lead on,” he said, standing up. “But you better not lead me into the girls’ bathroom, that will be awkward.”

Naetilia secured Donnelly and went to the drawer containing burn ointment when she heard rustling behind her.
She turned to see her patient struggling against the restraints. The human recoiled when she saw the doctor.
“Who the hell are you?” she demanded.
“Doctor Naetilia Bolanis,” the turian said. “Do you know who and where you are?”
“Charlene Donnelly, chief engineer of the Valiant,” her patient said. “And unless I miss my guess—or this is a very elaborate set-up—I’m in its medbay. What happened?”
“What is the last thing you remember?” Naetilia asked.
“Torrez decided to show everybody what he did on his vacation,” the human said. “I got my toolkit together and…and…”
“You received second-degree electrical burns to your hands,” the doctor said. “I would surmise you were attempting to rectify the situation and were injured in the process. That is the entire extent of your injuries. As for your memory loss, that is a common side effect, and I am unsure if you will recover it. I apologize, but alien neurobiology is not my field of expertise.”
She pulled out the necessary items for treating her patient.
“So did someone figure out what the problem is?” Donnelly asked as the doctor returned.
“Mr. Bridges has made a preliminary assessment,” Naetilia said as she applied the ointment. “He believes it to be the geth.”
“THE GETH?!” the human yelled. “Then why do you have me strapped down here?! Let me go, we have to stop them!”
“The others are dealing with the threat, and without the use of your hands, your effectiveness has been…reduced,” the doctor said. “I am sure they are capable of dealing with the threat. Your treatment and recovery are my priority now.”
“The ship is going down, and you’re rearranging the deck furniture, Doc!” the human yelled. “If we don’t stop them, you won’t have to worry about my treatment and recovery, because we’ll both be DEAD! Now let me go!”
Naetilia paused for a few seconds, then resumed applying the ointment.
“If I were to release you, what would your course of action be?” she asked.
“Geth are software, they’re going to go after their own kind in order to take control,” Donnelly said. “My people have half a brain between them, they’ll know to lock out the power systems. As for Bridges, if he’s as half as smart as he claims to be, he’ll be doing a hard reboot of all the ship’s systems to purge the geth out. That’s what I’d do, help Bridges with the purge.”
“Would this need to be done in Engineering?” the turian asked as she finished applying the ointment and applied bandages loosely to the affected areas.
“No, it can be done from any workstation,” the human said.
“Very well,” Naetilia said, removing the restraints. “But you are without the use of your hands. I will assist you, and if need be, defend you from any further attacks.”
Donnelly nodded as she got up.
The doctor activated her omnitool and opened a channel to her employers.
“Mr. Bridges, Mr. Caenilus, this is Doctor Bolanis,” she said. “Engineer Donnelly and I will begin hard rebooting the systems of the ship in order to purge any geth control. We will be performing these actions from the main deck. Bolanis out.”

Maelstrom made his way up to the command level, having taken out several more drones with the salarian at his side. Taking a moment to look around, he noticed a couple more of the VI-controlled devices moving even further up the ship. He had half expected the geth to try to take control of the command and control center or of engineering, but its attention seemed to be focused elsewhere. He suspected if he were an engineer, it would make perfect sense.
"I guess it's further up," Maelstrom said to his salarian companion, before continuing up yet more stairs to the upper level of the ship.

“How’s Bridges doin’?” the former N7 asked.
"He has succeeded in getting many of the ship's systems back under our control, but there is still a geth presence in the system," Maricus replied. "Even with all the measures at his disposal, we cannot count anything out until the infection is completely contained." A moment passed, and he asked, "What of Fischer?"
[Insert reply, if any.]
Another voice, that of his fellow turian came over his personal comms. “Mr. Bridges, Mr. Caenilus, this is Doctor Bolanis. Engineer Donnelly and I will begin hard rebooting the systems of the ship in order to purge any geth control. We will be performing these actions from the main deck. Bolanis out.”
Maricus looked to Lysander, and, as he suspected, it did not seem the other man had been made privy to the other turian's communications. He knew little about technology, but strategy was universal. Replying on the same channel, he ordered, "Coordinate with Bridges. Measures are already underway, and we don't want to give our enemy an opening by operating under opposing strategies."
Tapping a few more keys, he sent an updated communications protocol through the channel, which included Lysander. "All further communications should include Mister Lysander. He is the team's operational commander in tactical situations."
He gave a curt nod to the other man.

Maricus replied, "All further communications should include Mister Lysander. He is the team's operational commander in tactical situations."
“Message received and understood, sir,” Naetilia said. “I will comply with your guidance. Bolanis out.”
“Doc, all you had to say was, ‘Got it’ and you would’ve been fine,” Donnelly said.
“I strive for precision and exactness in all things,” the turian said, turning to the human. “Language is a complicated form of expression. Words that sound alike, words with similar meanings, cultural differences and context are just several of the factors which contribute to spoken communications. An error in any one of them creates the possibility of conflict and misunderstanding, which will cause additional effort beyond the initial expenditure. I prefer to avoid that by expressing my thoughts only once, even if it takes a few extra seconds.”
She turned back to the workstation.
“But this discussion is not relevant to our current set of circumstances,” she said. “Let us continue this dialogue once we have resolved this situation.”
“Okay, Doc,” the engineer said.

What had once been a steady stream now was a trickle. Before repair drones filed towards the entrance in twos and threes every five minutes. Now there was only one or two every ten to fifteen minutes. Though the piles of incapacitated drones surrounding Izahm may have something to do with that particular fact. At the moment he was resting on the floor sitting lotus style a faint biotic glow enveloping him. Suddenly four holographic drones charge at him. I love the Iron willed determination of machines. You order them to take an objective they will not stop until it is taken or they cannot function, he thinks as the biotic glow intensifies before rushing off of him in a flare stunning the drones giving him time to pull out his Revenant and after two thirds of a clip destroy the drones.
Izahm pops the current thermal clip then slams a new one in and returns to his lotus position Revenant across his lap.Looks like they ran out of or are unwilling to use physical drones, he thinks staying aware of his surroundings, cause that is the second holographic drone assault in the last five minutes.

The journey was not nearly as dangerous as Joe had thought, thanks mostly to the mech. Whenever they encountered one, it would charge it and use its short-range electric charge attack to stun it into submission.
Just might have to get one of those, he thought. If I survive this.
*****
A short time later he rounded a corner and found himself face-to-face with Izahm. The young reporter was sitting before a door, surrounded by the wreckage of what appeared to be several dozen drones.
“Hey kid, how you doing?” he asked surveying the wreckage. “Lot of dead drones, did you interview them to death?”
[Insert reply if any]
“Oh, I’ve got the doctor’s mech with me, it’s cool,” he said as it came up behind him and approached the journalist.
He opened up a channel to the rest of the team.
“Hey everybody, it’s Fischer,” he said. “I just linked up with Izahm here on the upper level, and judging by the amount of dead drones I’m looking at, I’d say we’re at Geth Central. Fischer out.”
He closed the channel and looked over at Izahm.
“Do you know what’s past those doors?” he asked.

"They required some persuasion," Izahm says getting up and storing his Revenant while deploying his Omni-blade for emphasis, "As to what's behind this door I can only guess," he stands next to Joe, "Unless you want to borrow my armor I suggest we wait for others," (Insert Reply if any) he then kneels down and pets the mech, "Hello old friend I am glad Naetilia got you out of that mess of a fight and group."
Once he had given attention to the mech he stands back up, "Who else is coming? I don't want to assault whatever's waiting for us without backup," he then turns to face the way they had come Omni-blade still deployed and after a second thought he deploys his Omni-shield the electric blue light form it illuminating the surroundings further. This was also the first time that one of the crew mates saw his shield.

"Unless you want to borrow my armor I suggest we wait for others," Izahm said, then knelt down and petted the mech.
If only he knew…
"Who else is coming?" the journalist asked, standing up and activating an omni-shield. "I don't want to assault whatever's waiting for us without backup."
“Maelstrom and Meldom are on their way, the doc and the boss are alive—at least they were a few minutes ago,” Joe said with a shrug. “As for the others, I have no idea."
My fault...
“Have you ever fought the geth?” he asked. “Do you know what they can do to this ship? I don’t know, and I sure as shit am in no hurry to find out, so I'm going to scan that room, then kick that door in and take out those metal bastards or die trying. You can stay out here and keep out the drones if you want, but that’s what I’m doing.”
He looked down at the mech.
“How about you, boy?” he asked. “Feel like taking out some geth?”
The mech barked affirmatively.
He turned back to Izahm.
“How about it, kid?” he asked. “You in or out?”

"I personally have never fought more than three or four of the normal Geth, however reading reports from Shepard on the Alarei, there is either a Geth Prime or a Juggernaut probably unfinished but still active behind that door as it is the focal point of their takeover," Izahm says, "I would much rather have more backup for anything like that. A Geth Prime is twice the size of a normal Geth has pulse cannons and holographic drones, Juggernauts have slightly increased size and are equipped with flamethrowers which in your current state either combatant probably wouldn't end well for you."
He flicks off the shield and goes over to the door, thinking hard, Why would he go so far just to kill some Geth? Unless he is partially responsible or feels partially responsible in some way. However the Geth got on board I don't think it's Joe's fault. However he's definitely feeling guilty about something otherwise he wouldn't be this suicidal, after glancing at Joe he sighs coming to the conclusion that the man was trying to redeem himself to somebody but he felt that doing it like this would not be a good idea, "Hey I get you might be trying to redeem yourself for something but being suicidal about it won't help you or whomever your trying to redeem yourself to,"
Izahm then turns around and redeploys his shield taking out his Disciple and holding it up like a pistol, "However I will be going first so anything in there will hit my shield and tech armor instead of your fleshy clothed body," he then says, "Ready to breach when you are."

Joe was certainly no actor, but he had played enough poker over the years to develop a poker face, which he deployed as he listened to the young reporter.
Damn, this one is sharp…
“Ease up there, kid,” he said, clapping Izahm on the shoulder. “Before any sort of operation, a good Marine always tries to get intel on the enemy, then decides on a plan for dealing with it, so let’s see what we’re up against first…or are you just that eager to get a few more notches on your barrel?”
He activated his omnitool and set it to scan the room beyond. As it did its job, he looked over at the journalist.
“So tell me about your encounters with the geth,” he said.

Esteban sent a brief message to Donnelly and the Doctor. Good work.
"Okay Data," Esteban said, closing his eyes for a moment to collect himself. He felt the cool metal on his back, still within one of the dozens of Jeffrey's Tubes of the ship. It actually felt good. "The Geth are trapped. If I know Joseph, the hardware the Geth usurped are destroyed. All that's left will be to reactivate the ship's external sensors to get a reading where we are at."
"Yes sir," his VI replied.
Esteban cracked open his eyes and lifted his arm up over his head so he could see his omnitool's readout. His VI opened a holographic rectangular viewscreen with information from the sensors...
Esteban blinked...
He read the information
And re-read it...
And read it again...
They were in the Hawking Eta cluster.
Within the Century star system.
Less than .5 AU from the Century Star...
.49 AU
.48 AU
.47 AU
"DATA!" Esteban finally blurted out. "Get Thomas on the channel now!!!"
"Yes sir," his VI replied again, immediately connecting his owner to the ship's pilot.
"We are on a collision course with a star!" Esteban tapped the screen on his omnitool to transfer the information up to the cockpit. "Get us the hell out of here! Now!!!"
[RP Note - AU stands for Astronomical Unit. This is the average distance from Earth to the Sun. It is a standard unit of measurement for space travel]

Izahm gets a thoughtful expression before saying, "Not much to tell. I was attached to the 32nd Joint Scout Regiment, a mixed alliance of Turian, Asari, and Alliance squads. We used blitzkrieg tactics, basically find an outpost and roll over it. We were stationed aboard an Alliance Frigate Stalingrad I believe," he pauses smiling at remembered times, "The captain was as Russian as you could get. Even claimed he stayed the Stalingrad's captain cause he was distantly related to Stalin himself, anyways after about three months of these blitz attacks with them I'm posted to a different outfit.
"One day about two months after I got reassigned I'm monitoring back channels when I heard the 32nd JSR had gotten almost totally wiped out. Faulty intel, the final report said," Izahm takes a slight calming breath, "instead of an outpost they hit an extremely well fortified and dug in enemy base. They even had a Geth frigate in orbit. They got the base but suffered 80% casualties and nearly lost the Stalingrad."
He looks over at Joe, "The thing I learned though is that these things are ambushers, they like to lie in wait in a dark corner or choke point then hit you from all sides. That's why blitzkrieg works best with them. Your basically steamrollering through any offensive or defensive actions."
